Default Rear End Gears

hey can someone fill me in, i am not the brightest when it comes to this subject. my friend has just put some 373 gears in his old 5.0 mustang, and that things really pulls.
just curious, our cars do have LSD's right?
also what would i need to get bigger gears?
finally where would i be able to purchase gears?

i did a search already, and didnt find much. but i havent really seen any posts or info on this, so i can understand if there are not many responses.

hey kevin, check your owners manual, if you still have it, it will say if you have the LSD on your car. Or just call Steve Ganz at Carson Toyota.

starting to plan the next meet already....maybe May 18th or 19th, hopefully we won't have crappy weather again.

There are options... Follow me for a minute:

I assume we're talking about the 5spd:

1. The stock gears are pretty good and the car is pretty shortly geared in stock form. approx 145mph is at redline in 5th. Ratios are spaced appropriately. Further lowering the ratio probably wouldn't help.

2. No SC300s for the US were equipped with any form of Limited slip.

3. The Automatic Supra TT has the same differential case as the SC, so internal components can be swapped. The TT 6spd is a whole 'nother animal.

4. TRD makes a clutch type LSD for the Automatic TT Supra. It is just the cartridge (carrier), no ring and pinion included--- you reuse your stock gears. The differential carrier swap would take some time, but should give you a significant traction improvement off the line and through turns. For some reason the TRD LSD is a clutch type and not the torsen that's in the TT 6spd.

On number 4 i thought that LSD's are only on autos. i have a 5 speed, how will that help? i kinda asumed that the differentials are the same on auto cars as stick? they make no difference, (exempt the 6spd tt monster) is that what your trying to say with #4.

So your saying my best bet would be to get a differential from a Automatic TT?

Default ring and pinion

rodmillen makes 427 gears factory are 397....rpm tend to be alittle high when driving on highway ....but the car pulls alot better
