Default Aristo LSD/Final Drive Ratio Just in case you were wondering.

I know this info is out there, but I guess search engines aren't all that efficient.

Anyway. My S14 is down so I was trying to get the SC up for ECB this past sunday. I bought a Torsen from an Aristo this friday because I don't really want a welded on my DD (for tire wear reasons). My issues caused me to miss the event.

All was going well untill I tried to bolt the driveshaft up.

It turns out the Aristo diff is a direct drop in if you swap yokes. I did not realize this as the difference in size is like 3mm, something you would not see unless you were looking for it. Sucked for me as I was doing this alone, with no lift, at 1am, hungry, cold, wet, tired, and little light.

A few pointers for anyone doing the swap:

1. Use a lift.
2. If not, its easier to lay on your back with the diff on your chest and bench press it up into place than using a jack to move the diff into place.
3. JDM diff fluid tastes as bad as it smells.
4. For the 3 bolts in the rear of the diff. Stick a 12 hex in and put a 13 wrench on it, or a 12 closed end wratcheting wrench instead of removing the rear sway bar. (absolutely no room to get a breaker or a wratchet in) OR buy a shorty 12 hex.

Also for final drive ratios for those who are worried about gearing (please someone correct me if Im wrong):

1. Aristo - 3.625
2. SC- 4.083
3. MK4 (jdm) - 3.266
4.MK4 (usdm) - 3.7 (prob same as JDM just rounded up?)
5.NA MK4 (jdm/ ??usdm??) - 3.769

If anyone knows the speedo difference let me know, or post up a FD calculator.

As far as feel goes, accelleration does not suck like some say it does going from a taller to a shorter gear. I actually find it easier to slide the SC than it is to slide my S14. Just a dab on the clutch and the rear moves out quite fast. (stock clutch) Not an aggressive lock so no noticable comfort differences for DD.

In 5th gear, 60 mph is at like 2600rpm or so which is nice.

I also installed my LS400 calipers subsequently changing my bias a little which should be good for trail braking.

Awesome wright up bro, im sure this info will be pretty helpful to someone attempting this swap, but your work area seems a little tight i would have gotten claustrophobic and gave up halfway through

Tell me about it!! I was clautraphobic as a child. I used to force myself into tight spaces and stay there untill I was calm. But even now I get a little skeevy under the car.

I wish I took pics step by step so I could make this an official write up, but I was rushing to make the drift event.

That made me laugh.

I'm sorry you had to taste diff fluid because I know it smells horrible.

OBEEWON - hello.
I SC300-97. I also want to install Thorsen-differential in the rear gear of my SC300-97. Directory of spare parts for SC300-97-JZZ31: FINAL GEAR KIT, DIFFERENTIAL, REAR; Part code: 41201-80028; Frequency of issue: 08/1991 - 07/2000; JZZ31 .. 4FC; * FGR = 47:11 = 4.273. In this directory there is no information about the diameter in inches large main gear pair rear gear in the SC300-97 - 7.5 "or 8" or 8.5 "?
My SC300-97 - the only machine in my city. I was at the center of the firm "Lexus" - where nobody knows what the diameter in inches at a great pair of rear main gear reducer in SC300-97 - 7.5 "or 8" or 8.5 "?
So I do not know what to buy Thorsen-differential for 7.5 "or 8" or 8.5 "?
Can you tell me - what Thorsen-differential can be installed in the stock gear my SC300-97 - for 7.5 "or 8" or 8.5 "? and from any machine - Soarer TT - model year or Supra TT - model year or Aristo TT - model year?
Thank you,
Vadim.

CLNSC3 - hello.
In this table there is no information on the back of my gearbox SC300-97:
Axle code -?
Reduction gear ratio?
Crown whel -?
This - 4FC; * FGR = 47:11 = 4,273 Toyota official information on the ratio FINAL GEAR KIT, DIFFERENTIAL, REAR for my SC300-97-JZZ31.
Let me know what these letters represent: "4FC; * FGR"?, Where you can read about this?
Thank you for your attention to my problems.
Vadim.
