Hella Micro DE halogens are pretty much the BEST on the market performancewise. They are well priced too. Here's a link...

http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell.../universal.jsp

And here's a good page pertaining to PIAA and their marketing hype. It embodies most of why I don't respect them at all...

http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/info/bulbs/superwhites/

There are other reasons I don't like them, such as their bulb prices are inflated by 200-300% for same product. We had a discussion about this in the GS forum, but basically the PIAA Xtreme White Plus is $110/pr and I tested them against Sylvannia SilverStars for $50/pr and they were the EXACT SAME output. I trust the Sylvannias have a longer lifespan too.

On a seperate note, I found some 2000 BMW 3-series HIDs. New and complete from BMW. Includes Bosch projector, Bosch ballasts, and Philips D2S bulb. I just need to figure out how to fit them in, but that should be cake

I purchased PIAA H3 bulbs over 5 months ago, they look white instead of the yellowish of the OEM, but one of them burned out over 3 weeks ago, let me see if I can find a picture of it.. found out I wasn't the only one having problems with piaa bulbs.., and yeah Hella, Sylvannia, are a lot better quality, and from self experience, Philips are very good also...

Well the OEM halogen bulbs that Lexus gives you are the cheapo base-line Sylvanias. They are the Halogen Plus series and cost about $10/ea. The Sylvania Xtra Vision bulbs are next up at $15/ea, and the Silver Stars are $25/ea.

Lex400sc, so i guess the 3 series were easier to find than the X5's? lol. Since the RX's have such a good cut off line, why can't we use those? There are TONS of those around, so I'm sure they should be easier to find wrecked, than a X5. Do the 3 series' optics give a good color, better than the RX's? Can't wait to see the pics. I've been wanting HID's for a loooooong time, so I feel that the "perfect" ScX00 HID's are on the way.

Well the RX is a reflector, not a projector like the SC. It's not impossible to use them, but very close . The 3-series HIDs (pre-bixenon) are white, but throw off a blue flicker. Same way Audis are white and throw off purple light. They are coming to me via a middle man in Oklahoma as soon as they ship from Germany so they'll be in hopefully by the end of the month.

$515, plus shipping (as soon as we figure out how much that is). That is a damn good price considering that any BMW owner walking up to a parts counter will fork over $2400 for the same pair. $515 is the cost of most HID kits (ballast plus bulb only). This retrofit is a whole system including weather sealed ballast, 3000+ hour 4100K bulbs, projector optics R&D'd by BMW and Bosch, and full warrantied parts. The hook up is through my friend's buddy at BMW (friend of a friend). I'll see if I can get more, but first I'll need to figure out how to retrofit them into our headlight housing in order to determine feasiblity. It'll be tough because every car has different aiming screws and mounting brackets. I'll probably have to bondo it or something.

Sorry lex400sc, i meant LX, not RX, typed it wrong. But since you already ordered the BMW's, what would the color be if you put 6000K bulbs in it? Would it be purple with a purple flicker?
