I spoke a Seibon rep at the Sema show, and he said the top part and the bottom part can be separated if no hood pins are used. The reason is the hood latch is bolted to the bottom part, but not the top part. So with vibration and the air is pushing against it, the layers can be separated. When the hood pins are used, both left and right of the hood will be held down tighly because the pins are installed on the top layer.

If you put on the CF hood and drive, you'll notice the hood flexes from left to right. The reason is it's so soft and light. CF is just like fiberglass or plastic. It'll get softer when it's heated up by the engine heat. I feel bad for what happened, but you should have seen that from the beginning.

I'm using the VIS hood and it actually has very good quality.

Regardless, proper hoodpins would of held the top layer if installed correctly.

It's funny that people call these carbon fiber hoods in the first place.

It's a fiberglass hood!! It's mostly FRP with a carbon fiber overlay.

It's a fiberglass hood with a veneer of carbon fiber.

I don't understand why Lexus never offered an SC with an aluminum hood from the factory.

Lincoln did on the towncar...

reason # 923,423,423,445 to stop selling parts to people on the internet...shady

Anywayz, ANY CF/FRP/Fiberglass hood that is made with 2 pieces will do this.

Theres a reason why manufacturers tell people to use hood pins

Very sorry it happened to you

: This is what I'd do with my personal car. It may not work for you...use info at your own risk.

use aluminum tape to seal the skeleton edges of the hood and re-install the hood liner. This stops air from seperating the skeleton from the hood face.

*its a shame that u have to say stuff (disclaimer) like that...but the days of "the customer always being right" are over.

Wow im definatly not looking into carbon fiber hoods anymore. I mean its only glued on the edges comeon i mean how much more money would it be per hood to spray the whole hood with glue like 2 more dollars. Comeon thats just cheapness right there. I dont care that the hood flew off im just glad i seen how they were constructed before i bought one. But it definatly sucks that this happended to u i would be mad cf hoods arnt the cheapest thing

i think "VIS" sould change their name to "FTL". bcause their quality is pure ****.

but seriously, most people buy 2-piece hoods when buying a "Carbon fiber hood". FG beneith with CF overlay. damn i thought everybody knew this.
