if you know what you are doing it's faster...when I first drove a manual. I was so slow to let out clutch, slow to change gears, slow to downshift...but as you get used to it you get faster and better.

don't ever think you will be faster from the get go...you will feel otherwise

manual is so much more fun!! No offense to anyone driving automatic, but to the OP if you are lazy and enjoy lounging while you drive, dont get manual. Obviously manual does require constant connection with the car so if your used to driving with your left leg hiked up on the seat, forget it, as now you'll have a clutch..and as for manual ever getting annoying, it only ever is in bumper to bumper traffic, so if that a common thing in your life, you might want to take it into consideration, but if you are all highway driving and only occasional city traffic, id say go with manual.

Get the manual sc300 from the earlier years. The pre vvti 300 models in stock form has a very laggy auto tranny.

But I think I would 1st rather beat the clutch on a civic than a sc300. I'd say you hold back on the sc if you decide on a 5spd because even though it's not my ride, I would hate to hear you beat up on the sc's clutch .

So this went from an Auto or manual thread to a "who eats while driving?" one??

To stay on topic, I'd prefer manual. Auto makes the driving experience so much worse.

To stay on the off topic...um, topic, I eat in my car! 5spd/6spd/dogbox/auto/paddle shifters, whatever.

How do you know I'm not on some kind of a time constraint? Atleast I'm not having a conversation on a phone.

Noticed that too...Looks like Dave came in here and cleaned out about 8 posts of BS. Anyone who says they drive with their hands at 10 and 2 all the time...LIARS!

Now back to our regularly scheduled Noob question.

If you can find a 5spd SC...buy it. End of story! Otherwise get and auto like the vast majority of SC owners have. Then if you really want to "row yer own", swap it.

I love my car so much more after the manual conversion. The autos aren't too bad with shimmed accumulators and increased line pressure, but I really enjoy driving the SC with the 5 speed. Definitely faster off the line, since the auto stall is so low, you can't launch. Of course I have 3 backup cars that are auto.

As for the eat n drive question, I think it depends on your height. I can drive very well with my knees against the bottom of the steering wheel, leaving hands free for eating and shifting. Go ahead and flame me, I don't care. I have never been in an accident that was my fault.
