a couple of things here, no you don't need anything to get the remote start to work, depending if its a newer version viper remote start alarm, they come equipped to install remote starts on manual or auto, the older alarms weren't so you would have to bypass the clutch safety in order to get it to work, but i wouldn't recommend bypassing the clutch safety switch for remote start because if you accidentally leave it in gear and try to start it your gonna have a pretty cool remote control car driving down the street without you... and ive heard my fellow installers say oh ill never leave it in gear, until they remote started into a wall
, also if your not to familiar with installing remote start alarms and such i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself, i would just take it to a good sounds shop with a decent track record for the install, but hope this helps and good luck

I bypassed it because if you dont, you need to do certain things specifically in order to remote start your car. I use to park my car, go home, remember that I forgot something in my trunk, go get it, and the car wont autostart anymore.
It's worth bypassing if you dont have the habit of leaving your car in gear, just make sure when you do sell your car, you disclose this to the buyer in writing or get it redone.
