So a couple months later, a couple of these LED's burnt out.

Im not too happy with the fitment, and the whole setup with all the hotspots and what not, so i decided to go with the angel eye method. It seems like a win win scenario.

For those who dont know, heres the thread:

Yeah, I have heard... works good for some and not for others. I never had any probs with either of my cars. No doubt the angel eyes are a way cooler solution, but more difficult and expensive.

Does this fix the needles that are burnt out?

Hey Mike,

No it doesn't fix the needles. If you look on page one for a posting from O.L.T. he has a web site with some very cool specialized instrument cluster illumination. Included in that, he can fix your instrument needles in any colour you want.

There is exactly 1 inch of clearance inside the cluster.
Okay, I am going to give it a shot. Based on your experience, would you use anything other than these "cluster" LEDs? Meaning, is there a specific position on the panel where you think a different type of LED would work better?

SuperbrightLEDs has some cool looking replacement bulbs, but I suspect they might lead to hot spots. Ideally I'd like to try green but don't want to find the display is too dim. Since they're expensive I'm reluctant to do much experimenting. I'll leave that for the more well heeled members of the forum.

I guess it could start to look a bit awful with LEDs from different sources being different colours.

Sorry, I really don't know. I can say for sure that the flat topped LED's are very very spotty.

I wonder if one of these LED lamps would correct the problems of hot spots.

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...ge.html%23wled

If I understand the problem correctly, the hot spot is created because the LED used had a single light source shining directly at the back of the instrument panel.

These lamps appear to address that problem with LEDs aimed in a radial manner parallel to the face of the instrument. This should provide lighting more like a tungsten lamp. Does anyone know how they compare in brightness with a conventional 194 bulb?

You may want to try getting those 360's, then painting the top SMD's black.

There's only one dude doing the needles AKAIK. He goes by O.L.T. There are some DIY's out there for just having the needle tips light up. Search burnt needles.

Yeah, the ebay LED's are cheap and easy. Some have had poor results with failures, but mine still work perfect - too bad the rest of my car doesn't.

Search ebay for lexus + needle and you'll find another source of repair. But if you want custom colours, OLT is the guy to go to!

Ok, for those that do the halo back lighting. Can you adjust the brightness? If so, does it uses the stock adjuster.
