How do i stop the tearing on the inside door panel?

Default How do i stop the tearing on the inside door panel?

my 97 SC300 is have the common problem of the inside drivers side door panel tear. i was just wondering if there is anyway to stop it from getting worse before it copmletely cuts through

I don't think so. I presume you mean at the top, where the side vents are located.
The problem is that the plastic under the trim breaks and, over time, the trim splits. My '92 SC400 has split on the passenger side, but not on the driver's side.
I haven't done this, but I understand this can be repaired by a good upholstery shop. There are threads which show how to remove the door side panel to access this trim.

i know someone reinforced it right when it started happening,they made a thread about it, search, its somewhere around here im sure.

That's exactly what I did, I could tell the plastic had broken underneath the vinyl so I took of the trim piece and epoxied the cracked areas and mounting tabs, I also added some bracing to keep it from happening again. The interior window trim plastic is notoriously brittle. If the tear isn't too bad that may help keep it from getting worse.

take the pieces apart and start patching up te=he cracks w/ epoxy glue

You can slow it down, but you can't stop it. The material has chemically changed and is separating from itself.

Start budgeting for new leather.

Thats what I did, was use Epoxy and small pieces of metal to reinforce under there. So far so good.
