Default having a few issues...newb problems

ok this is my first running non-Honda Ive owned so im in uncharted territory.

im getting this constant whirring sound from what i think is around the brakes. its speed related but i haven't been able to pin point it out exactly.
when i press on the brakes just enough to engage the brake system but not enough to slow the car down i get a faint clunk and when i let off another clunk. the whirring continues through out this.

this car's braking system is way different than my prelude i drove for 3 years prior, so this is mildly new to me.

what are you guys' opinion on different octane levels. I know lexus says to put the highest available in, but my lude said that and i put low octane it without hurting it. i know im comparing golden apples to rotten oranges but an engine is an engine.

i cant speak on the brake system issues, but i can tell you i tried rocking 85 in my tank one, full tank and my pockets felt great... but my motor was pissed off, there was an obvious lag, mind you i bought the car with 100k+ and im now replacing a motor but it wasnt worth the coin i saved to the loss of performance in my opinion. i too was a honda driver prior to this and i went through 2 h22 accords and a tl type s. at least here in the CO its 91 or better

Use premium gas, period...93 octane if you got it. "Engines are engines"..??? what the heck does that mean???? Next time I drive a M5 BMW I'll have to remember that line. If you want your engines to run well and last, I highly recommend using the proper octane fuel recommend by it's builder. Period.

Now back to your whirring issue. Does the car make that sound when traveling in neutral gear at any speed? If the sound goes away when in neutral at speed, it could be a worn out differential. Have you checked/changed your diff fluid recently? These sounds can be a challenge to pinpoint. They could be tire/wheel issues, wheel bearings,driveshaft/bearing issues, diff, and/or engine related. Just do a search and start troubleshooting/cancelling each possible culprit. Good luck.
