Default ugh im at a crossroad. 93 5spd sc3 or 04 5spd is3

i cannot decide whether to stay with my sc300 and most likely na-t it (within a year) or getting an is300 then waiting later on (maybe 2 years) to na-t it.

for those that have owned both cars or just to anyone that thinks one is better than the other (i know its a matter of opinion, but i still would like to consider it) please give inputs.

thanks guys.

i have also posted this on the is300 board

I have owned both is300 and sc300

4door or 2door is the major deal. Thats where you should start off imo.

Handling is300 wins over sc300 handling. (fact??)
sportier timeless looks sc300 wins over is300 aging looks. (opinion)

is300 5sp is weaker than the sc300 5sp. so if your going na-t. make sure you get R154 for either. (fact)

im still young 24 no kids no family just a gf.. so a 2door is fine with me for a while, so I went sc300 i have owned a total of 4 so far.

If i had a child i would go with the IS300, and still might pick up another one down the line because accidents happen LOL.

I think that is the main factor beside price, you want 4 doors or 2? Both are wonderful cars. How much is the is300??

A 4 door isnt that bad. I own a 4 door, and wanted to try something new so bought a 5spd sc300 like what youhave. Mainly cause I wanted sportier. Even though my 4 door has a decent amount of mods and is as fast as the sc. The sc still is sportier regardless, even though my 4 door is boosted. I think the sc will have the edge over the is300 in that aspect. Maybe its just me though.

if the is300 and sc are both boosted the sc would be sportier imo.

That's a lot of money for an is300. I'd rather get a 2nd gen gs430 for that price.

With knowing the price...I would say keep the sc and n/a t.

Keep the extra money and put it toward the sc. You can get a legit set of bbs lm's in a nice offset for the extra money lol.

Or other mods.

some lm's with specs made for the skyline r35 would be nice. I did the research. The rear should sit nicely. the front may need a spacer. about $5500 all four.

I bought an IS300 5-spd before I got my SC approx 6 years ago. I only had the IS for a month before I sold it for an SC. I originally always wanted an SC I just could not find a 5spd. So I bought the IS as more of an impulse thing, one month later found a nice SC 5spd and bought it.

There are several reasons I like the SC better than the IS. The SC just feels better built, especially in the interior. The IS had a economy car sort of feel to the interior, the SC has a nice cockpit feeling with the high center console, etc but when I was sitting in the IS it felt more like I was sitting in a FWD car than a RWD sports car. The styling is a no brainier to me, the SC is much better looking in my opinion.

I felt that the SC had more mod potential. Even though they essentially share a similar drivetrain, the SC can fit fatter tires, supra parts are compatible in many cases, and I could get an SC in OBD-I.

I could keep going, but ultimately this is a decision you should make for your own reasons!

I was also in the same dilemma, so I can probably list numerous pro's/con's for each car as I really spent a lot of time on it. But after seeing the price, I'd definitely go SC300.

I chose the SC btw

My brother actually has a 5 spd IS300 and I have a 92 SC 5 speed, and I gotta admit I do enjoy the VVTI in the IS as well as its newer interior. OP, if you do get the SC, I suggest turboing right away and revamping the interior i.e. black conversion, double din, etc..

As stated before, It all depends on what you want. Sure there's the two door or four door thing, but you should also consider how far you want to mod it. If you are looking to maybe do some rims, a drop, and low boost, I would go with the IS. When kept pretty stock, it is a wonderful car and appeared in my case to get better gas mileage. The handling in lower speed turns also seemed superior ( I had suspension mods )

On the other hand, If you are looking to make a serious boosted car, The SC is a no brainer. Stronger motor, Transmission, and a suspension that lends itself much better to drag racing than the IS. It's also nice to get factory upgrades from th MKIV Supra.

Now I personally feel that the SC300 is the better looking of the two cars, but from my experience, girls prefer the IS300. This of course only matters if you care to pick up girls in their early to mid twenties, lol. I work in Cocoa Beach and the IS defenitely got more looks from them than my SC does ( And my SC is no dog ). My current Gf likes the SC, but she also knows what 2jz's and V160's are and loves Supras.

This is all my subjective opinion. I don't buy my Lexus's just to get attention, but I will admit It's a very nice effect of owning these cars. All in all I would have to vote IS-F . Nah jk, SC300 won me over.
