Default Use your iPhone to start your SC. Viper SmartStart in action video.

Here's a video to demonstrate the capabilities of the Viper SmartStart system in action on an SC400. The equipment installed is the Viper 5901 remote start and the VSM100 SmartStart add-on for iPhone control. The box that pops up after each button push is a command sent notification. It is actually pretty responsive for running through a cell network. It can also do trunk release and panic (not shown).

Yes, the SmartStart is just a remote start for warming up/cooling down the vehicle.

It looks really slow to send commands. Plus how hard is it to grab your keys with a normal viper remote... something your going to need to drive the car anyway. the viper remote has a much longer range than the iphone too.

Iphone way
1. Get iphone out
2. open ap
3. use ap
4. wait
5. put iphone down
6. get keys out
7. use keys to drive the car

with out this...
1. get keys
2. use remote
3. use keys to drive the car.

Sorry nothing personal toward you, just looks like a bad product.

Its one of those things like you wake up in the morning, start the car from remote so by the time you get in, u don't have to warm up the car and drive off coz its already warm and the oil has already circulated.....

I had an old school one way way way back (1997)... I also had a viper alarm 8 channel.
1. Arm
2. Disarm
3. Roll windows up
4. Roll windows down
5. Open driver side door
6. Open Passenger side door
7. Open trunk
8. Start car

Pretty cool, to bad its really really slow.

But it would be nice on a cold morning you just start your car in your house, do all your morning necessities then once your done your car is fully warmed up.

Actually you'll have a much larger range with the iphone. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can use the iphone to start/arm, etc anywhere you are, as long as the car can receive a signal. Range shouldn't be a factor with using the SmartStart on the iphone.

"With SmartStart, there is no such thing as "too far away." SmartStart works over the 3G cellular network or over Wi-Fi, giving you virtually unlimited range anywhere in the U.S. As long as your vehicle is in range of a GSM cellular signal and your phone has a 3G or Wi-Fi signal, SmartStart will work."

head over to new york and let me know if the remote works.

Yeah, that is correct. I primarily start it on cold mornings to warm up the cabin before I get in.

I agree, to use it as your primary remote for keyless entry it would be a bit clunky. I primarily use it a work for remote start, where even my Viper 5901 remote with "one mile range" will not work.

Yeah, it is a tad slow. Like I was saying in the response above it's main purpose is to start the car when out of range of the standard remote and in that case the slowness doesn't matter. I still have a standard two-way remote I use when in range of the car.

Also in the future it will have the capability to notify you if the alarm were to go off, which will be nice.

That is correct, it should work from virtually anywhere.
