How well do they actually drive with snow tires in the winter? I am THINKING about picking up another one for the winter and getting rid of my winter beater because it is a good deal.

i had my sc for 3 winters already. first winter i drove it with an open diff and all season tires. it was manageable but not very pleasant.

last winter i had a welded diff and all season tires and it was much better and a lot more controllable. the car was actually 2wd instead of 1wd

this winter i had a welded diff and some 225/45/17 Blizzak mz-01. omfg x10000. greatest experience ever. snow tires, especially with an lsd are the next greatest thing after sliced bread and condoms.

my welded diff broke on me last friday. i had a spare so i swapped it in 3 days ago. yesterday we got a snowstorm and go about 12-14" in a matter of like 25 hours.

last night i went snow sliding with friends. it was awesome. even with an open diff. my car is still slammed from the summer and i didnt get stuck once.

i was passing plow trucks easily. make sure you keep a full tank of gas for weight and know what counter steering is.

open diff blows compared to any type of lsd but if you can get through half of what i did yesterday then you will be fine.

First, let me just say that the thing to do is get snow tires on your stock rims and then get some custom wheels for summer.

Sans that, this is a terrible car in the snow. I have a Camry, Land Cruiser, and 4Runner and obviously two them you would expect to be great and they are but the Camry is like a SnowCat compared to that SC.

But seriously, get good snow tires, not All-Season, real snow tires like those aforementioned Blizzaks, and it will go from wretched to downright good. It is that dramatic of a change.

 

Well this would just be a winter "beater" possible-future daily driver- cause I already have my summer/project sc300. I'm wondering about SC's in the winter with snow tires, I wouldn't ever try all seasons on a rwd car.

just put some winter tires on it and it'll be fine. as long as you use some common sence on snow driving you'll be fine. i've not had any troubles

In the back of my gearbox SC300-97 is set open differential. I want to install instead Thorsen-differential or install a different rear gear assembly of SARS-differential of Soarer TT or TT Supra or Aristo TT.
1) what size rear gear in inches from SC300-97 - 7.5 "or 8" or 8.5 "?
