As far as your front bumper, is that a molded on lip?
I disagree, it will add protection.

Yes, that is a molded on Lip, Big Win , made of FRP, and molded on with urethane bonding material. With the stock louvers removed, and the holes filled, it gave me the agressive look I wanted that would still fit the 97-2000 body panels.

So far it is 18 yes and 12 no. 60/40 split. Let's get some more votes and see what the outcome is .

I am trying like heck to finish it up and get it to the JM Lexus Florida 2K10 meet on this January 31st for a debut. If I do get it done, It will not be debuted with a grill. That will come after, if I decide to add it.

Please don't add it. IMO the car looks great in the first picture you posted. I think it will look stunning without it. Too much going on if you added it. This is my opinion though.

I'm with you with wanting to protect the Intercooler but just having that shiny beast blinging through your bumper will look awesome!

protect it from what? if something hits that mesh hard enough its not going to much anyways...plus I hit about 3 birds @75mph the other day driving here to san antonio, and zero damage to my fmic, just leftovers, and one full bird managed to stick to it for the last 40min of the trip..and just a couple bent fins that were bent back with my fingers, and a couple scratches on the bumper.

I think it looks cheap personally, but then again its your car..but if you can make it somewhat "not noticeable" and mount it so that it would actually stop debris and not just pop out of place, then it might have a purpose.

I'd skip it,

no mesh looks good on our cars imo, unless you like the way it looks, then do it.

Well, in addition to the voting, two things have happened recently to help me make my decision.
  1. I was at Skycraft a few days ago shopping for some wire, loom and butt connectors, and while there I saw a guy holding a piece of perforated mesh grill. I asked him where he got it from, he pointed me to a corner in the store, and there were a few sheets of what I expect is the exact aluminum metal diamond mesh grill leaning on the wall. It looked exactly like the mesh in the picture I posted up, thick and high quality....As soon as I picked it up, I knew what to do....
  2. I saw the Ultimate SC/Soarer Picture Thread and saw a pic of this SC with an AC kit:

Needless to say, I have decided after a close vote of 25 against, and 21 for, to NOT add the grill. It is not my taste. I just had to see it in person. As far as I am concerned, the AC kit above was ruined with that mesh grill even though it is not just mesh. The wire mesh itself, although it did not look like chicken wire, it did not look like a grill. It looked like mesh wire that would be added, not integrated. So, thanks to all of you for participating. It's back to the car now to continue working.

I do like the lower front splitter that looks functional, but not the wire mesh, or those awful double fogs. Not hating on this car, but those headlights are hideous as well.

the grill in that pic is like a true "mesh"... the spacing is tiny... the grills look alot better with bigger diamonds... not to mention you let more air in, the company i contacted had stats for all their sizing for how much surface area it blocked to help give you an idea of the air block you'd be getting infront of your intercooler.

Instead of powder coating..can you just use some heat resistant spray paint from autozone?? I ask because that seems like it would be easier considering you do it yourself. BTW that sc in SC400TT post is sick looking IMO.

In my opinion your car would look much better w/o the mesh! I have not seen too many people pull off the mesh look successfully, it usually ends up looking really riced out!
