Default lowest possible on coils, with drivability...

Ok,

I need help from you guys. I need to know how low is everyone driving with coilovers. Pictures would help as well as comments. Like harsh or ok ride, trouble with speed bumps, drive ways ect...

I wanna go low, but cannot afford air. I have coilovers right now, and a new set of custom valved bc racing coilovers on there way. Im running a shine ac rep kit. Just want to see what others are doing or dealing with.

If you guys can help that would be great.

lower the front slamm the rear.
if the rear isnt low enough... droop your springs

Ride comfort varies by coilover and spring rate. plus the drivers opinion of "uncomfort"

I dont find it harsh.. i daily drive my car
speedbumps are something i avoid when possible. i can clear them but i prefer to avoid them.
Driveways depend on incline and how you manuver to car.

Honestly, there are a lot of variables.

-Depends on how low your coilovers go.
-"Harsh" or "ok" ride kinda varies on your [perception] of what ur level comfort is. Generally; the lower you go, the rougher the ride.
-Trouble with speed bumps depends on how big the speed bumps are/ how low ur kit is, etc.

-Your driveway question is kind of a trial and error thing. I've used wooden planks to get into my driveway with my previous car before. I've even had quick release latches to remove my front bumper every time i entered/exited the driveway at one point.

see, no one can give you an EXACT right answer. just a rough idea because we dont know what your driveway/entry looks like.

My coilovers aren't really low. If they were any lower, I would scrape on EVERYTHING, which I dont want to do...

Right now Im at this height. I can get off the drive way but as you all say it takes time a manuevering. I bottomed out occasionally but I have new coilovers on the way that should solve that. I have yet to really drive it since my kit hasnt been installed fully yet, I only test drove it with skirts off. Im thinking a speed bump would hit or damage the skirt.

The thing is I wanna go low!!. and have the tires flush to the fender. The picture makes it look lower than it is. I still have a 1 and a half finger gap. Is it possible to accomplish this with coils and be drivable or is air the only way? I dont mind taking my time while driving.

if you absolutely want the slammed look, but are super worried about scraping/damge....then bags are really the only way to go because you can raise your **** at will if you feel you absolutely need to.

other than that, most guys on super low coilovers just drive with bold acts of bravery, lol. I personally like seeing the lower parts of bumpers cracked/fixed with zip ties, lol. That **** adds character. But if you're REALLY worried about damaging your kit, there's only 2 options:

1. don't lower your car too aggressive.
2. get bags/air ride.

there's not much else that can be said really.

drivability is subjective...some people love to scrape, and other don't. One finger gap seems to be the best compromise.

measured the front bumper and was 4" from ground...plus i still have like another 3" i can go lower on front but i definately couldnt daily drive like that.

It's tough to lower the front of the SC too much since it has a long overhang. Have you thought of going with a cup kit over your coilovers?

Being that you're in CA, your roads are probably amazing so.... I'd say slam the **** out of it and avoid all parking ramps and speed bumps. I am gonna try to go lower on my car this spring but I just remember it was 1.5" lower than it is right now and I scraped up my driveway no matter which way I came up/down. Also, MN is full of potholes that appear out of nowhere.

I'm assuming your on 18's and that might be a vertex kit...

these are your options..IMO
1. Bag your coilovers.
Some of the conveniences that I'm considering bags for are the following.
-getting past inclines that are extremely steep and unavoidable. Such as parking garages, driveways, rail road tracks, and oversize speed bumps.
All these are quite unpleasant to maneuver through, but are not impossible in most cases

2.Moderately slam
-Lower the car to where you want the aero to sit above the ground
First thing is first. No screws in your front bumper. only zip ties. trust me
my sides are screw and zip tie

3.Dump the car
Lower the car to where you want the fender to meet the rim.
On 18's your aero will be crazy low. all that need be said

pay attn to your most traveled routes and start to memorize any avoidable pot holes, road surface change, dips, etc.
and Even if you do hit stuff, it wont be that bad. the worst of all things that have happened to me...
Hit a patio stone that fell off a trailer and slightly bent a tie rod. there was traffic on both sides and no option but to slow down and hit it.
I cracked my oil pan on some uneven road surface. It was dark and i was going down a road ive never been on.

no harm no foul..live and learn
