Default Questionable CEL

hey everyone, my SC is throwing a TRAC and CEL. its a 93 so its OB1, and i'm not sure how to draw my own code via blinking numerical values. anyways, i'm equally concerned with how they came about. heres the situation.

i took my car off the road in august to go to college. took the battery off, and threw it under a car cover, filled the tank, and added stabil fuel stabilizer. now, the car was PERFECT at the time i took it off. not a single thing wrong with it. no CEL's or anything of that sort. now, i've been home for xmas break, and as soon as i start up my car, the lights instantly fly on. what in the world could this be? sometimes they don't come on. i'll start it up and let it idle for a bit and nothing comes on...but like 95% of the time they both fly right on. does anyone know how to draw my own codes so i can report them on here? or anybody have a suggestion as to what could be going on here? thanks

Derek

Take it to Autozone...they'll do it for free, but be sure they clear the codes from the last person.

I dont think autozone will do an obd1 test, ive asked them to and they said they can only do obd2. All you need to get is a paper clip and jump 2 connections under the dash, not hard at all, then you have to count the blinks to get the number. Im sure theres a guide on the forums somewhere.

I had a similar problem when I started my old SC300 sometimes the trac light would light up and other times it wouldnt right after starting the car. i never threw a check engien light though, just the trac

For me it turned out to have something to do with the second throttle position sensor (the one for the trac control). I think it was just too worn out and barely not reading in spec cause when the trac light wasnt on my trac control worked great. (It wouldnt come on the first start of the day (cold), but after that the cel would always come on).

The cel was regarding the second tps sensor not reacting exactly with the cpu control which is a test it does right when it starts. How you can get around this is when you start the car push the gas pedal ever so slightly when you start it up. dont goose it to the floor cause thats not good for your car when starting but just barely enough to register. Whenever I started my car like that I never got the light. I suspect cause the slight cracking of the throttle was enough to put the sensor in range.

Please realize that with the trac CEL on, you trac control will be disabled so be carefull.
