Default Going to look at an sc300 today, need advice

Hi I am pretty new to CL, sc300s and lexus in general. I am going to go look at a 93 sc300 either today or within a couple days, and was wondering what should I look for when checking it out (also is there anything years specific) and how much should I look to pay. It is a 93 sc300 manual with 160,000 miles. I am looking for something that is reliable and something I don't have to put a lot of money into to keep it running good for a long time (except for mods ie wheels, suspension, etc). I was really looking for something newer like a 96-above so that is kinda my dilemma, with the age of the car, so should I wait and look for a newer car? Any info and opinions would help. Thanks.

Don't pay over $5,000 for that car if it's stock. Don't pay over $4,000 if it's stock and not maintained. Don't pay over $3,000 if it's not a clear title and has obvious mechanical or body issues.

what 97-SC300 said is pretty good monetary wise. And really the engine in the 300s last for a longggg time so if the 93 you are looking at has been kept UP TO DATE with all mechanical check up and such it should be just fine and hold a bright future. If you want to wait for a newer one to roll around it is entirely up to you. Id say wait around a bit. How long have you been shopping?

bushings, bushings, bushings! (control arm) Bought a 97 SC3 with 155k miles...few weeks later noticed the clinking sound going over bumps and a hard popping sound for brakes. Looked under the car...bushings are completely torn apart.

Ashtray I have looking for about a month now. I pasted up on a 96 a couple of weeks ago cause it was an auto and wasn't my first color choice, kinda wish I didn't now.

Thanks for the input so far. Are the newer years that much better? or Different? Or is it mostly appearance wise?

Would you guys rather have a 93 manual or a 95 auto? And how much is a good deal for a 95 auto with 130,000 miles?

i would take manual over, automatic if you are going to do turbo setup and manuals are pretty rare so i would take chance on it, conversions are doable but can be expensive. i bought an auto cause i got tired of my manual but i miss it.

Yeah i'd get a manual too. These autos on older SC's are too complicated and go bad fast.

Check the rust first, you can do an engine swap, but the body you cant change that easy.

Make sure the car is in good condition. With SC's its never a thin line, either they are junky or in good condition.I guess condition is up to the previous owners.
