Do this, Look up kbb trade in value for your car and see how far youre off.
This is if you bought your car from the dealer
Lets say trade in value is 3800, the retail value is 5600 and private party 4700 do the math and think, if someone traded their car in and the dealer for 3800, and asking price is 5600, there is a gap of 1800.
take a look at the car and see whats been done to the vehicle tires, filters etc.
Use your own judgement, because to someone this car can be worth more than others or vice versa.
On the other note kbb is not very accurate after 100k.
The price will definately will attract more buyers wether its a 300 or 400

with my car, private party shows up as
Condition Value
Excellent
$7,610
Good
$7,010
Fair
$6,235
Trade in shows up as
Condition Value
Excellent
$5,700
Good
$5,200
Fair
$4,350
I just dont get it. I mean my 400 is in great shape and my price is more than on par with the other cars out there, but cant get calls. I guess on craigslist, it is tough because I have to compete with cars that are like 4k and 5k from dealers, but I doubt they are in the condition that mine is in. I guess people feel more comfortable with dealers..

The market for these cars is tough. Especially after 08 when we had the record high gas prices. I saw an increase in SC's selling for cheap after the constant rise in gas prices, but it also made the value of SC's decrease because there were plenty available for sale.

I was looking on craigslist and I noticed this too. Was trying to compare my 98 to something on the market. Found no other 98+ but saw ALOT of 1992 SCs listed for around $5K, which I thought WOW.
Was thinking of selling (if I do) for $6K when factoring both mods and the little bit of body work needed, might ask a little more now.

SC's in my area have gone up in value since I see them going for $5,000-$8,000 in bad to alright condition, and those are usually 96's and below. 97+'s seem to be going for even more money. Obviously, the cars are not worth that much so they've been sitting on craiglist for the past 6+ months. My car was the only decent one I've seen and it was $5,000.

As was mentioned before, prices of all used cars have gone up due to the shortage of used cars available. The main reason is the lack of new car sales involving trades. Cash for clunkers didn't help either, since all the trades were destroyed.

Well thats really good news for the 1992's.. I checked mine awhile back and I guess I need to recheck it again. I have no plans for selling this car, due to everything I have done to it. I would lose big time. Thanks for the heads up on the 1992 models.

KBB and what prices are paid for them in the real world are entirely different things. That's always been the case with any car.
SCs have a very tiny niche of buyers and enthusiasts. Being that it is a coupe the value nosedives harder. It's true for all coupes. These days you can buy a 2002ish Mercedes Benz CL500 which was north of 90 grand for just under 30 grand or less than a new loaded Japanese coupe.
The value of pretty much all of these cars will drop to nothing except for the ones that have ultra low miles (under 30K miles) and look factory new without having had any restoration done. I still see a rare SC on ebay that sells north of $15K because it is such a car and worth every penny.
Value dropping is a great thing though because the parts get cheaper in the used marketplace and rare items get easy to find.
Sure we will arrive one day to a point where most of the SC car population has been wrecked or junked and very few examples will be left, parts will be near impossible to find, and the exceptional examples fetch top dollar.....but that will not be for a long time.
By then, we might see the SC430's go south of $10K and many junker examples with sunburned paint, torn leather, and yellow headlights will be in the streets. The early 430s are already around $17-20K these days.
