Default Interchanging Guage Clusters

im thinking about getting a used 5spd sc300 cluster with 170k miles logged for temporary use while i send my cluster to OLT. will it affect my odometer reading when i install the original back? i hope that makes sense...

that's always a question i've always wondered. i think the odometer data is stored on the cluster but it could also be stored in the ecu as well. I could be wrong. where ever it may be, one thing is for sure, your original miles on the original cluster will be there when you put the cluster back. even if it is different, OLT isn't going to keep it long enough for you to put on a significant (3000 miles) amount of miles to cause a discrepancy. as i stated before, i could be wrong.

The data is stored in the cluster, not the ECU, on my 1992. I know this from experience. When you put the one back in from OLT, it will read whatever it was when you pulled it.

mileage is stored on cluster board i swapped over from the original dead auto cluster in my car with 120k miles to a working 5-speed cluster that has 220k miles. So then I tired to swap over the odo screens between the clusters thinking mabey the mileage was stored there but that didnt work. So i came to the conclusion that mileage is stored on the actual board it self.

Correct. 100% sure it's in the cluster board.

remember not to take your car anywhere for oil changes or a shop for that matter in the time you have the wrong cluster. all it takes is writing down the wrong mileage once and you car will be an true mileage unknown vehicle.
If you have over 200k on your car its not so much of a concern though.
