Default Almost left the world of Lexus..

And wow, that was not a good idea. Guys and girls, I've had my 1995 Lexus SC300 since June of 2007. Winter of 2007 rolled right in come November, and I realized that driving a peppy RWD sports coupe is not exactly easy. I learned in the summer of 2008 that gas in Nebraska can get VERY expensive and I was quite broke throughout that summer. I also learned that insurance for a 16 year old boy in a sports car is also EXTREMELY expensive. Winter of 2008 came in HARD. Probably was one of the most difficult times of my life, driving wise. I was getting stuck literally every day. My driveway isn't that steep, and I ended up having people push me most of the time. The straw that broke the camels back however was a very sad day in January of 2008. I was on my way to work, and I was driving extremely carefully, and those who haven't experienced Nebraska winter, I advise you to stay away. The ice is SO slick and the snow is so thick that even big trucks get stuck pretty easily. Imagine driving your SC in that. NOT fun. I was making the first curve to get out of my subdivision when all of a sudden my car goes into full 180 mode. About 2 seconds later I hit the curb and go up OVER the curb aswell. Carefully I drove my car off the curb and assessed the damage. One broken rim and one SCREWED UP rear suspension.
That day I realized that I need a daily beater.
Fast forward to September of 2009. $1500 cash in hand, I made my way up to the junk dealer. I had my eyes set on a 1988 Chevrolet S10 with a 4.3L V6, an extended cab, and most importantly, 4x4. An hour later, I was driving the puppy home. Forward to December of 2009. Independent front suspension is NOT very good. In fact, I don't think I'll ever own another 4WD with IFS. Three CV joints broken in one month. $800 in new tires, and another 300 for a new pitman arm and idler arm. In under 3 months, I put in MORE than what I paid for with this truck. After all the work that has gone into it, just recently I broke ANOTHER CV joint. AND it's developed a case of awful valve knock. I can't drive this POS anymore!
After days and nights and much deliberation with my parents I nearly came to a decision. Sell the truck, sell the car, and get myself a nice 1999-2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Cummins Turbo Diesel. Again, prepared to sell my little red beauty and pile of **** truck, I about made a huge mistake.
Before we went to the dealership, I went and took another look at my car. They'd give me $7,000 for the Lexus and $1,500 for my truck. The truck I was looking at was a 2001 CTD 2500 with a new 6 speed and only 104k on the ODO. I couldn't give up the Lexus. Too many memories, too much love, and too much passion has that car hooked onto my heart.
I came to a new decision. A decision I felt is right for me. I'm going to sell my POS truck and the money I got from it is going straight to the Lexus!

One of my coworkers scoured the internet all summer and bought a little mid-90s Toyota pickup with a 22RE. He went through that thing (u-joints, wheel bearings, belts, hoses, tuneup, etc.) and now when it is snowy here in Colorado, he drives that thing. Spent $2500 for one with 114k. Parts are dirt cheap for them and they are strong little trucks. Cheapest parts Toyota sells are for that truck and everyone can work on them. I have a 95 Land Cruiser so I drive that a lot in the winter but for an economical, cheap to own, utilitarian little rig, that ain't bad.

well I'm to the point where I won't be able to afford two vehicles anymore. Insurance+Gas on that thing is over 300 bucks a month...not to mention 400 bucks a month to get it paid off quickly.

1500 dollars can get you some pretty aweesome snow tires! i drive an SC4 in MA and it gets BAD here too but i never had a problem with the right tires and the right amount of careful skillful driving.

sorry about the truck, sounded like a POS. love that you kept the car though!
