Thumbs down Bridgestone Potenza S03.....

In the past I highly recommended the Potenza S03 performance tire. After having ridden on these tires for about 6 months now, I no longer feel that these tires are worth the high price.
First, I have been through two sets in only 6 months. These things things wear out faster than my ex's edible undies...put 'em on and they're gone! It's not that they're unusable, they become unbearable due to noise levels. When these things start to wear they become incredibly noisy.

Second, no matter how many alignments and balances I got these tires wore unevenly. The outer edge of the tires wore prematurely on both sets. This more than likely contributed to the noise levels as well.

Just a little info for those in the market for new tires. If you have these tires, I am not bashing them, but relaying my own experience with them.

Check out the Sumitomo HTR-ZII, it'll cost you less than half what those SO-3's cost and they perform better than Michelin Pilot Sports.

woah i was thinking about the S03 for my next one, glad u spoke up, maybe i should settle for some regular ole grand touring tires and forget about max performance.

what are u going to put on after your S03's?

I'm going back to Kumho Ecsta 712. They are inexpensive but I didn't have any issues with them. I will also be looking into the Sumitomo mentioned above.

Hmmm, really? I've never heard negative feedback like that about the S-03's...hmmm, I still might do S-03's on the Sc but there are a couple other tires I've been looking at...unfortunately, at 19", you don't have as large as a tire selection as 18's...

I'm on my third set of Pirelli P700 supersport and I love them.
The tread wear is excellent. Traction is not as good as the Dunlop but my Sc never had enough power to spin the tires anyway.

I put the HTZ-RII's on today! Very very nice. Time will tell how they are in wet, gravel, etc but I am really impressesd with the ride and road noise.

One thing that could be improved is the sidewall design....there isn't one. Talk about plain vanilla. When I put on my Meguairs tire gloss, I like to see some things shining back at me. Oh well.

The SO-3 is NOT a good daily driven tire. BUT if you run any type of Club racing they are AWSOME! I run them on my 91 Impulse RS Turbo AWD (2400lbs AWD and about 275hp if that means anything) Its street driveable but now that i have my SC300 it has become a full track car (Further lightening etc) Im not a pro racer but i am part of a local club racing series and my car always seems to do well. If you want a good street tire that will last, another one to avoid is any Falken. I have found that Yokohamas seem to be some of the best tires out there. They cost as much but they last 10 times longer.

I always thought the S02s were better tires than the S03s.

A big difference betweent he SO2 and the SO3. The SO2 is more of a street/high performance tire, where in it wont perform as well ast eh SO3 might but is a little better for a street car. The SO3 is a Ultra High performance Tire that is useable on the street but isnt exactly intended for long tread life, as it is with most other high performance tires. If you buy a High performance tire do not expect it to last as long as a normal radial because they perform so well for a reason, a different tire compound that of course also wears out faster.

one thing abuot S02s is that the treadwear rating is something like 160, while the new S03s have a 300 treadwear rating... they shouldnt go bad so fast, I didnt have any problems with mine and they are lasting a good long time (245/40-18)
My Sumitomos also 245/40-18 have laster abuot 15K miles so far and they have another 10K easy left on them

I have Pirelli P7000s (235/35-19) on a set of 19" Blitz I have and honestly I hate them, they lasted barely over 10K miles and I wore them down to the point where one tire was just continually losing pressure- they were loud, chunked at the track and didnt last long at all

My next tires will be Potenza S03s or Bridgestone RE730s

Like Carnal said, the treadwear rating on the S-03 is much better. It should last longer than the S-02 under similar usage.

Also, I know a few people with Falkens and they are happy with them. Decent performance and so far, good treadwear...but they have the "higher end" Falkens, not the low end junk...

Yeah, I've had many sets of Pirelli's and they all sucked...I'll never buy Pirelli's again...
