No sir. I'm not that smart. 1997 Introduced the new body to the Sc400 but vvt-i and 5 speed auto transmission didn't come into play until 1998. I have not found a way to run vvt-i or 5 speed auto on obd1 ecu.

Boost is in the plans for my car so vvt-i isn't really that appealing to me.

I would, but it will take a lot more parts to do this. I'd have to get the motor, tranny, harness, computer, radiator, intercooler, hose lines, and the list goes on. I just want a cruiser I dont really care for crazy HP I mean if you're going for a JZ engine you better go for 500hp & up, or why do it at all.

So let me get this str8, if I use the 97 motor, harness & computer... I would still be better off with the OBD1 ???

you simply just need to swap out the block. 97 was non vvt-i and its still a 4 speed auto. I got a 97 block in my 93. runs harder then my 95 i guess cause it under 60k miles =)

I would just swap the block, but the 92 harness I have is starting to dry rot & a replacement part from the dealer is crazy $$$.

Rebuilding the engine is a good idea but its alot more expensive to do that. and either way I would still have to purchase a new harness from the dealer; no one wants to sell just the harness anymore.

Call Lonnie Simmons at Simmons automotive 813-506-1176. Just tell him that Matt gave you his number and he will take care of you. I'm almost positive he can hook you up with a good deal for a 1992 harness.

You can also use the whole motor not just the bottom end. You just have to wire it with the old harness.

The reason for staying obd1 is the sensors. For example the exhaust sensors are before the cats on obd1 and after the cats on obd2. The obd2 also uses more expensive cats and again obd2 sucks!!!

The 96 and 97 motors made 260 from the factory thats 10 more horses that the 92-95. Thats why it feels faster. It is. Just not much.

Thanks a lot for the contact info. He says he has a harness i'm just waiting for an email with a photo to see how it looks. I want to know... if I use the harness from the 92 motor & use it on the 97 motor will the 97 computer work? You said the sensors are in different locations on the 97 body so will the computer of the 97 be affected???

You need to use a 92-94 ecu. He can hook you up with one of those too if you think yours is bad.

In that case I wont use the 97 ecu i'll just use my own. Is there a way to test an ecu for flaws???

i think with that stuttering it is either your ecu or you have some cracked hoses causing vacuum leaks........ Why would you go the most expensive route when you havent tried anything but iacv? just wondering thats all
