Default Average cost to do an engine swap???

Hi everyone & thank you for visiting this thread...
I was just wondering how much it would cost to do an engine swap for a 92 SC400 1UZFE ? I have a friend that says he has a 97 motor, harness & computer that he wants to part with. I wil be getting it installed soon & I need to know how much this usually goes for.
thank you guys once again, your information is much appreciated.

$1600 for the motor and the labor is a fair price. 800-$1000 for just the labor is fair too for a good quality install. The 97 motor is obd2 and your 92 is obd1 you will have to change the wiring harness to make it work. I have a 97 motor and trans in my 93. It can me done. Its just more work. Hope this helped and good luck.

I agree prolly btw 800-1000 for labor w all the parts. I would get the motor inspected while it's out and replace whatever is bad

Yeah that sounds good, I'm going to change whatever is bad on the used engine.

This is what I did. Take the 97 Motor if its a good deal. You will have to take a good portion of it apart to change out everything on the harness for OBD1. Replace everything you can afford. Its cheeper and easier to do it when the motor is out of the car. Remember that thing is still 13 years old. The bottom end should be fine. You should replace the timing belt, water pump, wires, distributor, plugs and all gaskets. That way your motor will be as close to new as you can get with out doing a full on rebuild. I know it sounds like a lot but trust me. It is the way to go.

BTW Why are you doing the swap?

If you have the extra cash you should do the w58 5 swap at the same time.

Yes I will be doing this swap on the engine but not on the W58 5 speed just yet. I want to know, if I use the complete harness from the 97 will I still have to do the mod for the OBD1-OBD2 because I will be getting the computer also.

Go OBD1!!! OBD2 will require more work on your part. Its easier to change the harness on your motor vs. changing the harness and sensors on most of your car. That and OBD2 sucks!!!

What is the endless trouble. Smoke? Misfire? Poor performance? What?

All the above my friend, you hit the nail right on the head. when driving under load, the car seems to hesitate for a few seconds then go; also the car has a very bad idle problem. I cleaned the IACV with no results. checked the plugs, wires, injectors and everything related... no dice. So im swapping it for something with less miles.
