Default Engine detailing.

Hey guys and gals,

Well, now that I'm done w/ the starter on my SC400 I've decided to clean up all the hard water spots on my engine bay (from when I had to be putting water+fluid in from a radiator leak a while back). Now, I've inspected scviolences' thread and it seems as if he's waxed and painted and what not.
Is there any kind of product that works specifically towards removing hard water spots as a result of my previous problem? I've tried soap and warm water and they seem to be pretty stuck!!!
Also, anything that would help spark up the bay significantly would be dandy.
I want to get it looking like when I first got her! Spotless!!

1500 grit and 2000 grit sandpaper (WETSANDING--enough to remove water spots soft enough not to destroy your car), and some patience will do wonders, after that hit it with some polishing compound (i used turtle wax brand), then wax that baby and enjoy your sweet engine bay..if you have to paint somethings then do it or have someone paint it for you..im going to change my red hoses back to the oem style ones cause that red stuff is a bit much..

People have used numerous of things. Try WD-40 when you are finished removing the water spots. To remove the water spots try half and half degreaser, like super tuff or purple stuff. They both work great on engine bays. You may get alot of slack spraying water on your engine, but I have done it alot. Just make sure its running and stay away from the distributer caps and electronics. Leave it running untill all the water has evaporated or ran off. Then use compressed air to completely dry, then coat with WD-40 or somerthing similar. JMO and good luck

I've tried the WD-40 before but didn't seem to work as well as I hoped. It also left a greasy look that i wasn't too fond of.
It looked good on my redtop SR, though. heh

I will DEFINITELY try sand paper. I've never even heard of it being done like that. I suppose that's why I brushed off your comment about sanding stuff down in your original post.
Has anyone had any experience with brake cleaner as an engine + bay cleaner?

the easiest way to remove water spots and actually get results with very little effort is white vinegar and water mixed. Spray it on, rub it in a bit, and rinse and your done. Finish off with some Simple Green then any kind of plastic cleaner and your engine bay will look new again.

Check out the detailing section. Among many recommendations I recall Simple Green and other things ^ those guys have mentioned . Good luck!

Turbo dremz, will do! I have both in my house anyways! (:

Hil, thanks for the input! I will definitely check the detailing section. I wasn't aware there was one!
While I was putting the intake back on after my work, I noticed a connector that is a bit gnarly.

Now, to source that!

Vouch for turbodremz white vinegar and water. You'd be amazed at what it works on...not just engines.
