Default My Mom Almost Accidently Stole a SCx00

My mom called me tonight and told me she accidently almost stole a SC after leaving Sam's club in a rush. After leaving the store she headed in the general area she left her car parked, pressed the unlock button on the key, got in the car then noticed it wasn't her car. Same color exterior/interior.

I guess the security system must be somewhat primitive compared to newer cars. Does anyone have any specific on how the system works and how many combinations there are? I hope it isn't something ridiculous like a hardcoded key with 2^8 combinations....

Has this happened to anyone else?

She didn't try to start it but I odds are the keys are different (I hope). She has a 95 5spd so she would have figured it out regardless it the key actually worked.

Omg! LOL That is what I call an awkward situation if there ever was one. I bet you that SC wasn't locked and she just assumed she unlocked it.

That sounds almost like the urban legend where an old lady scares off a couple of guys she assumed was trying to steal her car, only to find out that her car was parked on the opposite side of the store parking lot. lol

Yes she does, she's had it since new. Although it needs work...has peeling paint, cracked leather seats, peeling semi-OEM chrome wheels w/missing center caps (causes tire seating issues), lots of misc internior cracked plastic pieces, darkened A/C controls, intermittent guage LEDs, jumpy tach, oxidized head lamps, etc. But runs and sounds great otherwise...

I live 1000 miles a way so can't help with up keep. I put in a new radio (since CD deck broke), new leather shift/ebrake boots, fixed 25 cent broken piece that causes the exterior door handle to stop working, fixed inside door handle, and reversed power tilt gear.

She should probably think about selling it soon.

My mom did the same thing with her Escalade. That's pretty cool that your mom drives an SC. Mine keeps trying to buy mine from me but I won't sell it to her.

I had a mazda 6 rental in silver and I was in a hurry and thought I unlocked my car but infact some one parked there mazda 3 in that color next to mine. There was a spanish lady in the passenger seat and I got in the car and sat down.
She hit me and was cursing in spanish at me. I was soooo confused for like a second then got out feeling soo dumb. Then I got into my car next to it and said i was sorry again.
