Need some opinions on 98 and 97 SC300
I will be going to look at a 98 SC300 and a 97 SC300 within this week. They both are stock and have about 170,000 miles. I also might go look at a 95 that is priced cheaper than both and has about 130,000 miles. I was wondering if I could get some opinions on which one to get. My plan with the car is do suspension, wheels and exhaust within a couple of months having it. Then eventually go boost within a year or two. I would be open to either NA-T or a swap but would probably prefer to do a swap. All in all I am really looking for a reliable, fast, fun, good looking car. Right now I am leaning towards the 98 and just don't want to regret it if I do end up getting it and wish I got a non VVT-I motor.

So everyone thinks I should go with the 98 even if I want to go boost in the future? I heard it is much more of a pain and expensive to go boost with 98 and above.

I was also under that impression (not at all fluent in engines though), but if you end up doing a swap it wouldnt matter either way. You could probably sell off your vvt-i engine for a bit more in that case..

i'd go with the newer one, but definetly 97+ at least..
check out the IS forums for sure, alot was learned about my turbo setup reading those forums.
btw my car has 170k on it with a na-t setup and is reliable as hell, just make sure your motor is in good shape first.

Is there anything I should look for or ask when I go look at these cars? Is there anything years specific or in general I should look for? Also what are some red flags? Thankgs

search for SC common issues on this forum and you'll find a few.
SC's don't really have any major issues, just small issues that cost alot lol.. but none effect the reliablity of the car.
I'm selling my 97 NA-T SC, not trying to push it on you but if you have any interest pm me.
i've had 3 SC's though two 95's and a 97, i'd definetly stick with 97+

I am going to check out a sc300 tomorrow and was just wondering what type of questions should I ask and is there anything I should do or look for during the test drive and while checking it out. Thanks.

Went and check out an sc300 today. The light with that shows the doors where open would stay on even when the doors closed, also "brake" would flash on the cluster randomly sometimes. The car also had a box C title. Are these things I should be worried out or red flags? The box C kinda scared me so most likely I will end up passing on this SC I just check out.
