Need SC300 help!!!!

I recently bought a 1994 SC300, and I love it, great condition in and out. Well, now that I've had it about a week I'm noticing minor things that need attention, like my cassette and CD changer is not functionable and I can't figure out what is up. After doing some reading I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with a code, but maybe it has something to do with the alarm that I'm still trying to figure out. The cassette will take the tape but wont play, the cd is load but does nothing...I found a replacement unit, I'm thinking to just replace it, and that would solve the problem..., but considering I'm no wiz on the car yet, I'd better check with the pros......, and thought, ideas?
