My New '95 SC
#25
I'm looking into one ASAP. Is 75k too many miles on an ECU? I know it's hard to tell, but when do these typically start going bad? My car has 116k, but I only drive 5k miles a year or less. Someone is offering me one with 75k so I want to be sure its good. Also, is there a DIY replacement ECU thread somewhere? Sorry for the questions, I'm just an SC noob

My original ECU had 87k miles on it, but my car (I just got mine a few weeks ago) has only driven 10k miles in the last 5years. I dont know exactly how that wears an ECU out, but after changing mine last week I've had no issues (for the 30 miles I've driven!)

I'm an SC noob too, and I looked for the same DIY for the ECU. I ended up asking the cat I bought mine from. It's under the carpet in the passenger side, just pull the carpet down from the top. The ECU is under a black cover about where your riders feet would go. You need to remove the black cover with (I think it was) a 10mm socket, and then then ECU is staring you in the face. One more screw hold it downs and thats that. I did mine at 1am with a flashlight and those limited instructions lol! Hopefully the 5sp ECU is in the same place.

He sure didnt, and I didnt even ask. I just asked him if he was sure it worked and took his word for it. I'm usually quite a bit more skeptical, but this time I stepped out there on faiith. He also said that if it didnt work, I could send it back to him and he'd give me my money back. So I couldnt really lose.
This kind of confirms my theory about cars with low miles...I've always said I'd rather have a 10 year old car with 120k miles than a 10 year old car with 50k miles. I'll bet the people out there that have driven there cars regularly haven't had to change ECU's on a d@mn 87k mile car. I mean low miles is great for resale, and for saying "I have low miles," but d@mmit cars are made to be driven and when they arent they have more problems than when they are IMO.
By the way, I love the wheels. I'll be showing my age here, but they look like some old school wheels we use to call "hammers." God I'm old....
