Default What can I do with these 97+ tails?

Guys,

I have some 97 tails that have the outide plastic cracked on both tails. I would rather save myself the effort of packaging them up and shipping them by just keeping them, so was trying to think of another use for them?

I am guessing the exterior plastic from a 95-96 or 92-94 wouldn't work? It would technically "fit" - but the lines would be all messed up...

Anyone have any ideas of a retrofit I could do with them?

I actually have a spare set of 92-94 tails so I may destroy them and see what I can come up with

haven't had 92's or 95's in my hand for awhile to remember what the outer plastic differences are like, but what if you took the older outer lens and sanded off any lines on the inside of the plastic?

then while you have the 97+'s opened custom paint them or something.. or paint the amber part red..

just some ideas.

you dont have to destroy them just heat them up and take them apart carefully if they dont fit seal them back together with clear silicome or sealer they will still work!!!

I'd give you $50 for them.... or you could paint them.

They 92- 94 have a clear double diffuser middle. and top clear orange split with bottom clear orange. reverse light out of place. 95-96 i havent had but i think the its simiar in that the outer or any combo isnt gonna do anything.

If they are just cracked and still sealed vinyl them or something. tint em. i would say the clear outers of of some ebay lights but im sor if they fit correctly. im thinking THE MOLE already tried this.

Vacuum form some new lens, look it up on youtube. You could also buy some PETG plastic. It's a clear plastic that can be formed to new shapes easily. Very cheap stuff like 3 bucks for a 48" x 24" piece.

this first is a 92_94 tear down

this second is 95-96 tear down

this last is 97+ tear down

since you wanna mess with the 92-94 tails. take out the middle and the put it back together with out it and then red them out. ill post the pic of it without the clear diffuser if i can find it. it looked good but they didnt red them out i think it would look better.

then since you still have the 97+ tails take that clear diffuser from the 92's and take apart the 97 tails remove the inner reflector and put in the clear to see what it looks like. i know the outer shell on the 97 is cracked but to see what it looks like. and i know they are kinda pink but it may look good on a red car.

here is what the 97's with the clear diffuser could look like

I think the best thing to do would be to find a set of "ALTEZZA" Ebay lights for cheap, then throw the clear lenses on top of the 97-00 inners/backings.

One thing about 97-00 lights that I don't care for is the slight pink tint to the outer lenses, grabbing the altezza clears would solve that.

They are running $83.95 plus shipping on Ebay right now...

Then make a video of you running over the circle parts of the Altezza lights, and lighting them on fire, then taking a baseball bat to them, while yelling DIEEEEE ALTEZZAAAAA LIGHTSSSSS. That should do.

See the clear outer lenses?

I was distraught one day. Bad move I should have left it alone...
Hmn.

DX3 I hope you really go through with this, I saw the classifieds post- I hope it all works- should be sick.

Oh, just read the moles thread... Hmm... Maybe still worth a shot, you could cut the lense and leave a lip around the edge maybe and it'd fit? Kind of like those clear headlights where you have to dremel and use the outer edges of the stock lights. Just thinkin' on the fly here...
