serious problem!!!
yesterday for some reason i had the urge to see what would happen if i unplug the maff sensor while the car is running. the car died!! so i plugged it back up and it stalled the first time but 2nd try it came to life again!! want out for a bit came home everything was fine!! now this morning my car is having a problem staying alive it has a misfire and to actually start it up i have to step on the gas pedal. whats do you think is wrong with it because i work and go to school and my car is my only way of transportation?

it may be it's cranky from having the MAF unplugged while it was running, so codes may still be set in the ECU. Try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal and letting it sit for an hour. After that crank it and let it idle for a bout 10 mins. It will be a little low and rough for a while, but soon the idle will kick up and hold at it's normal 700-800 rpm. Drive it and see how she runs.

what do you mean it won't stay lit? Is it still the same? Idle out of wack? be more specific
Also who or what gave you the idea of screwing around with the MAF? was it not running right to begin with, or was there a problem you were hoping that unplugging the MAF would fix? a little curious...

You need to clear the code(s) and often the battery method is not going to do it. Head over to Autozone and have them pull and clear the code. Connector in on the lower kick panel under the steering wheel. When I was messing around and trying various ECUs with other intakes I was always setting off the codes.

I don't know if these cars were that sophisticated back in the 90's, but I know some newer cars have a fit if you pull the connector or start the car with the connector unplugged . . . it looses some calibration and has to go through a re-learn procedure. For them, it's NOT clearable and remains until the cal procedure is completed.

when i stated that it won't stay lit i mean the motor would just shut down due to the rpm's being to low...
nobody told me to play with it i just was wondering if my thoughts were correct on what would happen if i unplugged it while the car is still running there was nothing wrong with my car before! and when i started it back up it was connected!! and it worked fine till the next day "today" and is idling like crap

late update: i want to Autozone and i was out of luck because..
1. i didn't have a check engine light
2. my car is a OBDI (they only do OBDII) 1996^
3. i ran in to a mechanic that told me how to really reboot the computer. (didn't work)
.....
so after doing serious homework i need to check if my SIC sensor is working because it may cause stalling on idle which is whats going on. and if needed to be replace do that and also have my ASC certified mechanic run a check on it.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
