yea it's the same on a 2J. Gotta contort your arm around past the control arm and motor mount to get it. It's easier with a few tools though

I get it from above using a oil filter adapter and 6" extension. It gets a little messy with the oil running down but I put plenty of rags under the filter and use a plastic bag over it to catch it. It takes about 10-20 minutes. Letting it drain and cleaning up takes up most of the time.

Will definitely be doing it more often, my brother helped me the other times. So happy to have the car out though, I didn't start it all winter, and drained all the oil out today, I let it drain for a good 20 minutes, and kept it slanted on one side to get most of it out.

Funny you guys complain about this. Take it from the top of the engine bay with a plastic bag wrapped around it. I don't use tools. And is you want something to change about complaining. Go change the filter in an NA Miata.

yea they are a PITA to get out. I agree with the above poster, saying most of the time is clean up. It probably takes me 20-30 minutes to change the oil and the rest is all clean up. My gf has skinny arms so i make her take out the oil filters for me now.
