can't think of much else, thats all I did to get it to work. I am assuming your tach was working before and the new ignitor is grounded. Probably something simple i would think.

Sigh...

So I figured out my plug wires were leaking electricity

I installed new NGK wires. I also rearranged the coils because I had the coil perched on #1 and it seems the VVT-i has the coil sit on #2. That of course required repinning the igniter and resetting the timing. It idles fine and runs fine - but now it surges under steady throttle. i haven't even started troubleshooting, just felt like venting.

It happens just take a break and try again. I have the NGK they are great.
If you look at my diagram the coils sit on 2 4 and 6 like on the vvti.
double check the repinning at the ignitor i guess It should be exactly like the diagram.
If you got the wiring right the timing should be the same, maybe you swapped the wrong pins.
From your previous setup, moving them forward one cylinder, you should have swapped the outputs for coil 1 and 2. Remember coil 3 is for the middle 2 cylinders no need to swap that wire when moving up one.
I have done it so many times I feel like I can do it in my sleep now.

only timing really make sure to follow my guide for base timing, and your battery voltage is in good shape.
mine seems to fire up right away.

I'm about ready to throw in the towel. I can't get this damn thing to run right. I also can't seem to get the tach to work. I also INTERMITTENTLY have the same issue as duhafnusa4 where it will crank and crank and crank and won't start. My battery is 2 weeks old, plug wires and boots are new. Didn't have this issue on my GE ECU so fuel pump and regulator are good. Could be ECU, MAP, or injectors at this point I guess. I'm just fed up.

So my car still runs like shiggity-poo, and I decided to just work on crap that has been bugging me. I fixed the tach. The R109 thing didn't work for me. Turns out it was R73 for me.

Yay, I contributed...

turns out we have different boards, and the resistor colors of your r73 is the same as my r109

So still no tach for you?

I just jumpered the first resistor that pin 9 of the middle plug came to. I also verified that it eventually went to the tach.

I have a lot of clusters from different experiments. IIRC, this one is a combination of a 94 5 speed, and a 95 auto.
