Default Tapping the transmission pan, what size would you recommend?

UGH.......such a nice day and just my luck something has to go wrong.

So I jacked my SC up to change the oil and transmission filter. I noticed a fairly large puddle of oil under my transmission. Finding the leak was easy.........it was dripping from the drain plug. Once I was done changing the engine oil I turned my attention the leaking plug, when I tried to loosen the plug it would just spin and would not back out. I finally got the plug out by applying some pressure to the left and turning.

Needless to say the threads on the plug are shot and sadly the hole is as well, so my question is what is a good size to tap the hole with?

Oh and to make matters even more annoying the filter I got from lexus is wrong............is for an ES not SC, lol just my luck

I think its 10mm now. you can go next size up 12mm... or stick with the same one but go 1.5 or 1.75 thread pitch.

Yeah its 10mm and from the looks of the little bit of thread left on the bolt it looks like it is 1.75, but I'm not positive because there is not enough threads left for me to use my gauge. I ordered the OEM plug and i'm hoping I can just retap the pan to match the stock plug.

I may take you up on that if this does not work, how much are you asking?

Ok so the OEM plug size is 10M x 1.5..............Could I just retap the hold to the OEM size or do I have to go larger?

Just an update, I finally got around to fixing the problem. Since my local dealership here cant seem to tell the difference between a transmission drain plug and a engine oil drain plug I decided to just tap it.

If anyone has the same issue, go to autozone pick up the package of Torque Converter bolts for $4 and retap the hole to its oem specs 10M x 1.5 and your good to go.

Goor job Sup2jzgte..... so re-tapping with the same diameter and thread pitch is good. You basically cleaned out the thread so that the bolt screws in better and locks in place.
