Just a quick bit of "you probably don't really need to know this" history/factoid.....Beamers/Beemers are BMW motorcycles. BMW cars are referred to as Bimmers. 9.5 out of 10 people don't know this, so I thought I'd share with my CL enthusiast brethren.
BMW started big in motorcycles and was very active in motor sports back in the day. One of their biggest competitors at the racing track was BSA - which was also a big name in motorcycles then. Since BSA motorcycles were known as Beesers, BMW fans decided to call BMW motorcycles Beemers. BMW obviously went on to design and manufacture cars. The BMW car enthusiasts wanted a new term to differentiate cars from motorcycles and coined the term Bimmer.
So to recap:
Bimmer - proper accepted slang for BMW cars. Most people don't know this.
Beamer/Beemer - proper accepted slang for BMW motorcycles. You will hear this term used incorrectly by many people.
Bummer - When you get a speeding ticket.

to the OT, nah i'll Keep my SC, Don't think i could afford to maintain a older BMW.

Thats good knowledge to have on the BMW platform, but I have read that BMW started with airplane's, then motorcycles. I maybe wrong, but If I rememeber correctly, thats what I read. I have 330i and love it. The rear struts are squeaking but still tight. The only thing that has broke on it was the passenger side window regulator. This was because BMW switched to plastic gears, instead of metal ones, because people complained about the windows being to noisy. Its a great car, and I would buy another one.

Since we are getting into some car history, I always thought it was a fun fact that the three spoke Mercedes-benz symbol was to symbolize land, sea, and air, Mercedes making planes boats and cars.
