Default 92 sc400 stereo upgrade

would like to replace oem stereo but read somewhere that if i do with after market stereo i will lose function of my subwoofer. not sure if this true or false, anyone w/ knowledge please help. also any suggestion of any new stereo that will fit.

You can do the swap but it is not quite as easy as it is on other cars. You will need an amp to power the deck mounted sub. There are some great threads about this on CL. The search button does magical things. Good Luck!

Yes sir you are correct. My subwoofer is no longer powered now that I have my aftermarket head unit.

Be prepared to replace the factory sub and amp. The factory sub is a 1 OHM

can anyone tell me how the sound quality is without the sub. trying to decide to use the sub or not, trying to keep cost low.

Quality is fair - but IMHO the sub is needed.

theres a DIY on here to replace your oem stereo to an aftermarket one and still be able to use your sub, i did it, and my sub works.

Thats a very good write up. I chose to run a seperate amp on this one, and the my factory subwoofer says 2 ohm, not 1.
