You could also go with a JVC double din like Hil recommended as well if you can't afford a Pioneer. I've got a single din JVC that I hooked up in my Saturn, and it was very nice and easy to use. I've heard that Jensen/Phase Linear's products aren't that reliable like they use to be. I'm not sure since I've never owned one, but if you can afford it, try the Pioneer, JVC, or even try a Kenwood.

Great choice.

I just ordered the f700bt myself which is the same unit as the x710bt. The f700bt is the older model with the older firmware. You can do a firmware upgrade to the f700bt though and it makes it the same as the x710bt.

There's also the 900 series which can play DVD's.... but I find it much better just to put some videos on a usb memory stick or ipod.

The pioneer units are great bang for their buck.

Since we're on the topic, does anyone know what kind of basic head unit (none of this double din expensive non-sense) I'd need for my car? the car has hard wired speakers and an aftermarket sub in the stock location. I really dont want to spend over 100$, if anyone could link me to one that I should buy or tell me the specs of one, it would be greatly appreciated.

I found a few headunits that may be good for you at Best Buy. Try this unit from Pioneer: http://tinyurl.com/yywkjpd, or you can go with this unit from JVC: http://tinyurl.com/y6cxp2y. Only go with these models if you only want to continue using the aftermarket sub. If you plan on using more than one amp to power both your speakers and subs, you may want to go with a higher end Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, or JVC in the $130-$150 range. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

just go with a name brand. I tried it all. Pioneer, eclipse, alpine, kenwood, jvc and so on. it depends on what you want. If you want sound quality and plan on expanding for sure get pioneer, alpine or eclipse.

If you just want some features and something that plays, get any other brand listed.

Dont waste you money on chinese knock offs. The resale value isnt there. If you plan on selling it in the future the pioneer or other name brand will hold value in a trade or sale.

No. Only if you plan on putting in aftermarket speakers or subs. For these headunits(assuming you already have a dash kit and wiring harness)you won't need anything else. Does the sub in your car now have an amp hooked up to it?

Best part is that it runs Windows as an OS, so it's totally hackable.

I don't see them quite that cheap on ebay anymore, but I highly reccomend.

Prior to that - if you're just looking for iPod and or MP3, CD. I had a Kenwood DPX-701 which was feature packed - even had an accelerometer to estimate horsepower and a little car display that turned when you did. Those are dirt cheap now.

Still working on the install - and repairing the body damage from the accident - so no flaming on the installation or cleanliness!

+1

good unit
