have these been proven to actually add any noticable power to the 400's?
Yes, they have been dyno'd and shown a average of 11HP increase and 5ftlbs of torque. Granted a dyno is just a tuning tool and cant really be held for dead accurate numbers.
Friend of mine installed them on his LS400 tho (needed some slightly modification) and noticed an average of .1 to .2 decrease in overall 1/4 mile times over a 16 run day
these paired with a high flow cat ( or no cat) and a nice flowing exhaust system, you should feel a little more power

headers are always going to show a gain over stock exhaust manifolds b/c it's 4 pipes running into a collector vs 1 pipe with exhaust coming from 4 ports into a collector........
