service at 90k mi, timing belt

Default service at 90k mi, timing belt

i was told today by a lexus machanic that timing belt on my 97 sc4 is not
that important, i can drive it until it breaks, it wont hurt the engine, is it true?
my car is at 85k mi now.

i know its a non-interferance on sc300 dont know about sc400 search it

All 92 to 97 Sc400 have non interference engine.
Starts in 1998 the 1UZ-FE became interference since Toyota applied the new variable valve timing system.

Regardless, why would you want to drive your SC until the timing belt breaks?

cause it might not break for the time i own it, then i would save 600

yea you save 600 until when? When you get stranded on the side of the road and have to call the tow truck to get you to a dealer where you have to drop off the car and pick up a rental....need i say more?

The sooner you get it off your chest the better. There have been plenty of cars that go through our dealership and end up on the side of the road just because they wanted to save a few extra dollars. Either that or find someone that can do it cheaper (though quality can't be guaranteed)

i only drive it in the city, if i get stranded, i call someone to pick me up, i got another car anyway, and i get my friend to tow it for free
