Default Vibration after tire change.

I replaced front tires with used ones in pretty good condition. Now when I drive at about 55 mph and above, My steering vibrates violently. The tires were balanced, and I don't know why this is happening. I went to tire shop today, they tried to re balance them and I still get same vibration. One of the mechanics said that the rim was bent (he didn't even examine it, he just looked at it while it was rotating on balancing machine) but I don't think this is the case because it didn't vibrate like that on old tires, and I didn't hit anything. Can this be tires then, since they are used? What do you guys think?

Is there any cupping on the tires? If it wasn't happening before it's either they can't balance tires or it's the tires themselves

What do you mean cupping? Like bubbles on tires or bumps? I hope it's just tires.

cupping as in high/low spots. You will be able to see it, or you could feel it. Cupping would be caused by blown shocks or unbalanced wheels. Why don't you check your wheels for any obvious bends.

I don't know how to check em, visually, they don't look bent.

It's pretty noticable. Do you think its because of bad tires? They are used after all.

Do you know the history of the used tires (sometimes, they're made available because of an accident) ??. It's possible to have a broken belt within the tire. It will still balance on the machine, but will cause vibration under load.

Sounds like unbalanced tires, maybe the guys who installed the tires balanced them/mounted them incorrectly. Are you running a staggered setup? If not try swapping the front to the rears and see if it helps.

You beat me to it.. I was gonna say rotate the bad boys and see what that does. I have always had good luck with used tires.

To put front tires on rear rims or just rotate rims with tires? I'm running 245/40/18 all around.
