Its been good so far.. minus the few snags (MK3 W58 lol) but we will figure out something for the crossmember.

The only blood so far.


Center console back in.


Filled the old hole with the auto shifter rubber insert.


Shifter


Sits to the left because of the bend in the stock mkIII shifter. So, that will have to be fixed.


Seems to be a perfect fit longitudinally...


But...


It's not. The neck will have to be made more vertical and brought back to sit in the same position. Should be an easy fix.

Any pictures of the bends you've made to the MKIII shifter?

What are your intentions for the transmission mount?

The biggest thing snagging my swap is making the MKIV shifter fit on to the MKIII tail shaft. I already bought the shiny new short shifter, so of course I want to try and use it.

ohhh, i can see why the mods are needed now. so does the SC W58 without the external shifter sit far enough back?

No changes to the shifter have been made yet, but I will post photos as soon as that happens.

The transmission mount dilemma will hopefully be solved tomorrow with Matt's assistance. We may try to modify the SC400 cross-member to fit the MKIII mount.

From what I have seen and been told, you have to make some internal modifications to the tailshaft to fit the MKIV remote shifter to the MKIII. So, I decided to go with the cheaper, simpler route. Cheaper being the key word.

I am pretty sure it would because the MKIII shifter puts the **** in the correct position (longitudinally). It will just hit the plastic piece directly in front of it when shifted to a forward gear, but it only needs maybe another inch of clearance (at a low point on the shifter). I could probably cut the piece out and it would work fine to be honest. But...It would still be off center transversely because of the way the MKIII shifter is bent to one side. The non-external SC tailshaft extends a couple inches further back than the MKIII tailshaft. So, that should give it more than enough clearance. Maybe Matt can clarify that.

MKIII W58 mount ready to get hacked up.


After cutting every single part of the mount into several pieces, I got the piece I wanted.


The MKIII piece is to be attached to this SC400 mount.


It fits with the two mounts combined into one.


I cut the shifter into a four pieces today. So, tomorrow it might get welded to fit nicely, and the pedals will finally go in with the master cylinder. Maybe if I am blessed by God tomorrow I can get to bleeding the clutch and start up.

wait wait wait take pics of reverse light wiring and neutral switch wiring!!!! please just wanna see how so my swap can go smoothly.....redphoenix do ur power seats and steering wheel still move

I haven't wired the reverse light yet, but for the neutral safety switch just permanently short circuit the yellow plugs that are in one of the transmission harness connectors and it will start. I drove the car a few times today, and hate that I have to break the new clutch in before ripping on it. It drove well, though, and is completely finished with the exception of welding on a threaded tip to the shifter for the **** and insulating the holes in the trans. tunnel. I need to go for the long break in drive this weekend.

nice pics, it seems easier than i thought, especially if you get the w58 from an sc or mk4.
You must have alot of patience to deal with the mk3 one.

Actually the MKIII wasn't really that bad besides having to have a new shifter welded. Luckily a friend offered to help with that. The mount situation was just a cut and drill process to put the SC and MKIII mounts together. The only angry yelling I did during the whole swap was for a lost bell-housing bolt (which is permanently stuck between the egr tube and bell-housing) and the clutch pedal installation because being tall really makes that part difficult. But yea, the newer W58s are definitely a little more simple if you can find one for a good price.

another question. how much of a pain is it to drill the holes for the master/clutch pedal assembly?
