Somebody told me mounting a aftermarket in place of the stock sub would cause the new one to blow out due to the air flow restrictions? I listened and I just got a 12" in a box in my trunk. You guys with Kickers in the enclosure encounter an problems with that>

Free air subs suck, that's why I never thought about the stock location, and trying to fit a box in there would be pretty hard, do to space. I'm currently using the ebay SC box my car came with, but that box is just too small too, sound like ish! I'm looking to changing it a bit too, maybe I'll see someone post what I'm thinking about doing here.

Yeah, that's why the sub is inverted. I stuffed the box too, but it still hits very short and not hard enough for me But I got something in the works Just have to find time now.

Nice I'll try re-using the stock mount. Thanks.

I have two 15" kickers in the trunk. I like how they sound but I get a lot of rattle coming from the rear speaker grilles, does anyone else have this problem too? I'm thinking of removing the grilles and seeing if it helps

thats pretty bad ***. Did you have to do any other cutting or modding besides the stock sub ring? It clears the gas tank? I wonder if a idq10 would clear it.

After seeing this thread im more motivated in putting a system in. I never did free air in any of my cars before though

Can you put the grill back on? What about if I have a rear deck taillamp on mine?

My single 12" Rockford Fosgate P3 does that too and I'm not even pushing that much power to it. It's hard to drive with the windows up since the rattle kills the bass.

Does anyone know of any ways to make the subs sound louder inside the cabin? If my trunk is barely open and the windows are down, my system pounds, but with the trunk closed it sounds really weak. I heard that you could take out this sheet of metal behind the back seat, but I figured I would see what everyone thought about that.

I had a free air sub (Kicker comp) on my SC and it didn't produce enough bass to justify the cost of upgrading with an aftermarket sub. I would recommend purchasing a proper enclosure for the sub. You will save in the long run.

If anyone still is willing to go with the free air route, the stock sub ring needs to be reused to clear the fuel tank.
