Default Can aftermarket sub work with stock sub amp?

So I have two aftermarket subs at 8ohm each. I hooked up one sub to stock system and it sounds much quieter than stock one. I think it's because the resistance of aftermarket sub is different, it's 8ohm v stock 4ohm (or 2?). So, if I connect two aftermarket subs in parallel it will create 4ohm resistance. Do you guys think that stock sub amp can at least handle it? I'll go try today lol.

if the amp is 8 ohm, and you run 4 ohm itll never be efficient. Only way is to run 1 8 ohm. Unless you have dual voice coil 8 ohm subs. Them you can wire it to 8 ohm, but I dont even think any exist. Cause single voice coil on wires down the load to 4 as you said.

How many watts you need for the sub? 2 subs on stock amp seems like alot. Youll clip and blow the subs eventually with square signals.

The amp is 4ohm or 2ohm, and subs are 8ohm each. So, I think If I run 2 8ohm subs in parallel it will be 4ohm. Well I'll try em soon, kind of risky though... Is there any other way to lower the resistance besides running two subs in parallel?

If I remember my EE stuff correctly from school, the two 8ohm subs in parallel will work but will not be as loud as a single 4 ohm sub.

Will I have risk of damaging stock sub amp?

To post #1...

No, tried it a few weeks ago. The stock speaker (if I recall) is either a 1 or 2 ohm, very difficult to find a free air to work with stock amp, I tried. It's not powerful enough to push an after market speaker.

Ended up buying a JL Audio 10W1v2 (4ohm) subwoofer and installed it into stock holder (see http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...p?series_id=15), replaced rear 4" speakers with 5.25" (fronts & tweeters still ok, so left them), bought and installed myself a 300W two channel amp (bridged) to the sub, hooked up a new Pioneer head unit to the other speakers.

It sounds great. Really, I was shocked at how nice it sounds with one 10"...

Does it fit in the stock hole without modification? Also, can you put stock cover on it, and it doesn't touch the gas tank?

It does fit, you will need to drill a few holes in the ring as the jl sub has a different pattern. Takes about 5 mins to swap them around.

Stock cover fits fine and it clears the gas tank (by about 1/4").
