Default FP bypass at FP ECU different than at diag port?

So I know there's apparently two ways to bypass the FP ECU- one is to open up the inside panel where the ECU is and bring two wires together and it's bypassed. But there's also a "bypass" that's done by connecting the B+ and FP jumper on the diag port. My question is are they the same?

I'm dealing with a problem that is commonly the FP ECU and all I've done is the diag port bypass to rule out the FP ECU, not the actual hardwire bypass. Is the hard bypass redundant or would that be worth doing?
