I agree with Manaray.... 8000k is a myth
http://www.decoratingstudio.com/arch..._and_color.htm

1000K Candles; oil lamps
2000K Very early sunrise; low effect tungsten lamps
2500K Household light bulbs
3000K Studio lights, photo floods
3500K Incandescent (tungsten)
4000K Clear flashbulbs, Twilight
5000K Typical daylight; electronic flash, Flourescent
5500K The sun at noon
6000K Bright sunshine with clear sky
6500K Shade
7000K Slightly overcast sky
8000K Hazy sky
9000K Open shade on clear day
10,000K Heavily overcast sky
11,000K Sunless blue skies
20,000+K Open shade in mountains on a really clear day

With that said, I think Bright Sunshine lights are better than Hazy Sky lights...but that is my opinion

The only TRUE bright lights out there is REAL HID. Trust me, PIAA's best bulb, even overwattage, will be dimmer than a set of real HID's...

[/B]
I agree with you that people are not going to get the brightness and true effect of genuine HID's just by upgrading there bulbs regardless what bulbs they go with! (UNLESS THEY GO WITH THE ENTIRE KIT OF HID'S) But if you don't want to spend that kind of money ($400 bucks plus) on real HID's and are just looking to go to a whiter and brighter light then PIAA are the ones to go with if you can cough up 50 bucks!!! Remember I am referring to the bulbs only not the HID kits. Like in everything else, nothing compares to the real McCoy and you pay for what you get!!! So, we agree!!!!

I do shop around, that is why I'm not foolish enough to use PIAA bulbs . Anyway, I got that price ($150) from someone in the GS forum who was looking at the PIAA Super Dooper Ultra Xtreme Platinum White Xtra Turbo 2000 bulbs or whatever. Such silly names for such silly products...

Glad to hear you show around. here's an example of what I am talking about anyway.

For instance model 15760 on this site $64.95 which is a good price for 2 Piaa bulbs.
http://www.wholehyper.com/piaa2.html

Now look at the same bulbs on here $109.95

Brightness....

The extreme whites are the brightest and whitest @ 4000k

"Xtreme White Plus bulbs are whiter, brighter, and closer to the color of sunlight."

Where the Platinums are 3800k
"Platinum Series Super White technology approaches the color and intensity of H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge). Upgrade your bulbs for a whiter, brighter light."

Perhaps I need to rent some PIAA Xtreme White Plus bulbs again and compare them to you all with photos. They are not brighter than Silverstars. Trust me, I bought both and had the choice to keep the better of the two. I chose the Silverstars because they were the same brightness, longer lasting, and much cheaper.

"Platinum Series Super White technology approaches the color and intensity of H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge). Upgrade your bulbs for a whiter, brighter light."
I'm assuming you drew that quote from PIAA's website. The TRUTH is that halogens have less than half the intensity of an HID. I'd hardly consider that "approaching the intensity". And the color is non-existant when you consider that they are trying to sell you on blue/purple flicker, which you won't achieve.

(BTW, 4000K and 3800K are not measures of brightness.)

Lex400sc,

What do the Silverstar globes look like in a Soarer/SC? Any pictures? I need new globes...

Right now, I've only got the factory Koito HB4 (9006) lightbulb, and I was wondering if I would be able to change it to a HB3 globe (9005)? Does anyone know if this is legal or not?

Sorry people,

My mistake, they are 6000K instead of 8000K. Mine are made by HELLA. What do you guys think, how is that compared with the Phillips?

Hella only makes ballasts and optics. If someone told you the bulbs were made by Hella, they lied to you. If they lied to you, they probably sold you generic Korean bulbs. You asked how they compare, well, Philips are quite simply the HID bulbs around.

Silverstars look as good as halogens can look. The 9005 bulbs can fit in your low beam with a little modification. Just cut out the tabs/teeth in the 9005 bulb's socket and slip it into the 9006 harness.

It's technically not legal, but not one person in the world can tell that you're using 9005 in a 9006 from looking at it, not to mention I don't think one cop in the world knows the difference between the two if you told him. If you do get caught, which is a slimmer chance than winning the lottery and getting hit by lightening in the same day, it's only a $15 ticket over here. No big deal.
