I agree .... I used manaray's instruction's on my HID installation. If you go to the Lexus Lobby and go back a few pages you can find the installation guide "4100k vs 6000k". It has step by step instructions with "pictures" making it a whole lot easier.

enjoy

Default Yes you NEED them

Most of the time the igniter is in the same housing as the ballast. So are you sure that the "relay looking thing" is the igniter? But if it IS seperate, then you definitly need the ignitors. That is what will ignite the gases in the bulbs.

What SC300TURBO is referring to is the Xendrive D1 system which has a the starter (ignitor) seperated from the ballast. D2 as you guys are more familiar with have both ballast (controller) and ignitor (starter) integrated into one box. D1 does have it's advantages.

The answer is YES you do need the starters or the system won't work. The ignitor flash boils all the liquid, solid, and gaseous elements within the bulb in order create a rich mixture to host the gas discharge phenomenon. No ignitor and you'll be feeding 35 watts to nothing. Do not hardwire your HID kit into inline with the halogen wiring. Do that and the connectors, all low-side switches in the lighting circuit, and the headlight switches will begin to melt. There is a good reason why you need to wire in a relay, serial diodes, and multiple inline fuse holders: Safety and longevity/endurance.
