Arrow How Do I Paint My Car

Hey guys, was wondering how to paint my car from dark green to metallic black. Where would I take it to get it done. Maaco I know does crappy jobs, so who in the DFW area of Texas can I trust to do a great job?

5 replies and barely a shred of "help," way to go

A friend of mine went to the automotive services section of craigslist and looked up painters in their local area. He went to a few places, checked out the quality of work at those places, and eventually went with an old cat that had a paint booth in a big a barn at his house. His paint looks fantastic, so maybe that route will work for you. Good luck.

go check out different body shops in your area. most shops will have samples or pics of work that they have done. if your looking to repaint your whole car, it will not be cheap. especially a full color change. do you plan on just doing the exterior or do you plan on doing the door jambs and all? theres a big price difference between the two. i would expect about 2k to just paint the exterior.

If you still have access to oil based paint. You can paint the car yourself in your garage compress + spray gun =). I use to paint my own cars until California converted to Water based paint. Its very easy and is all in the prep work!

I have seen another car painted the same way, and if the prep work and finishing is done right, you cannot tell even from 3 inches away that it wasnt a "professional" job..if anything, this is what I would suggest for those who are not familiar with using a paint gun.

Not all maaco's are terrible. They are individually owned. So they are hit and miss. usually miss. But I have seen some phenomenal paint jobs come from maaco.
