What is happening to our cars?

Its just simple that the demographic of a car owner, if its cheaply obtainable then you will see riced out cars far more so than if say you go on a g35, 350z, BMW, Benz forum. Its true everyone has a ricer stage in their boyhood where stickers add 5 hp, so keeping the car out of their demographic will reduce these occurrences. Unfortunately an SC is well within their grasp.

Seems everytime I come on here there is a newer way to ruin the style/class of our cars with more and more hideous "mods." While everyone is entitled to do with their cars as they please, they are in turn ruining the joy of ownership for everyone else. I almost wish the prices of these cars would have stayed up high...
Crown Royal shift boots, home made painted valve covers with tri-color engine bays, what's next I guess I should just get another LS and leave the SC's for the young uns...
/end rant.

Starting to? It's been that way for years! One of my friend who use to frequent the SC section told me he stopped coming here because of the ricerness. Truth be told, he's right! I can't believe the amount of crap I've been seeing on here. It's even worse when they claim their old beater 93 sc300 has class... yea maybe when it was stock!
its simple... you mod a Lexus like a Lexus... The SC's are getting cheaper and people are seeing Soarers/SC's drifting on TV and want it for that, not for what the car really is... I bought the car because it is a quality executive grand tourer/ sports(ish) car... I wish people would realize what the SC is and not all jump on the drifting bandwagon
Your right it is just a car, but alot of people have pride in their ownership. I grew up with Toyota/Lexus in my family. Dabbled in Benz/BMW/Honda myself as well. However my family has always been Toyota and Lexus customers. I have always been faithful to Lexus and will continue to buy them. All my life I ridden in ES to a GS to a LS to a IS and now my SC is the only one Im keeping.
I like driving cars that are hardly seen on the road that look great when modded correctly. If everyone has the same car and I see it everyday it makes me bored. Uniqueness the car is an extention of myself and im not the normal guy that just picks whats HOT this year.
I see like maybe 1 stock SCx00 a day. Hardly ever a modded one. But I can count IS,GS,Honda,Acura,Nissan,Mazda 20+ a day of the same model.

I agree man, There has been so many threads poping up in a past few months of people saying "Should i trade my SC for ______" and it is always a civic or something....
Let people pick up the SC, rice them out, and sell them for really cheap.
I really dont mean to toot my own horn here, but Everytime I drive into a car meet, people stop and stare. Im sure the Other cleanly moded SC's in here can relate, People dont know how to react. These cars , when done right, are show stoppers. Everytime i went to a meet with my old setup pictured in my sig, People would all stop what they were doing and come see what was going on with my SC. I can only imagen what it will be like with all the new stuff im doing. These cars are timeless. I have never once been called a ricer, or street racer. all i get are stares of approval as well as good comments. People who do their SC right will also recive the same. The people who rice them out Wont. they will get made fun of.
And for some reason, when people hear its a lexus, they automaticly hold it to a higher standered.
My wifes 240 for example. its KA-t, 18 psi, running crazy low offest wheels and wide body. with a clean paint job. Her car is the whole package. People Admire it. The sterotypical ricer car of our age and she has taken it to a new level where people respect it. BUT it took a ton of money and clean mods to make it happen. Where as with the SC, its a stock 97 body with wheels and lowed.... nothing special at all.. Yet as soon as people here its a lexus is automaticly awesome.
PS, spelling ****'s can Sit on it and Spin because i seriously dont care. My miss-spelled words still get my point across

I agree with both sides.......
I agree that the "riceyNess" of the todays SC's are becomming more and more and its actually stupid IMO, its a Lexus not a Honda, Luxury not mediocre. When people are swapping out their Luxurious woodgrain for Carbon Fiber......really???? C'mon people, its a lexus! I see the no reason in making this car whats its not. In Japan this car is well respected and known around the streets as a bad **** because the JZ under the hood. Here in the states its the same way, its respected...............dont tarnish the respect of the car for a simple DIY mod.....
BUT!!
i also agree that its stupid to judge the SC group as a whole when its just a few bad apples....... I still see respectful cars on here and will continue to come here, when the few bad apples pop up, i just look the other way and dont even click or comment. When something is done that deserves respect, thats when i give it and i believe it should always be like that. But in the same concept you need to give respect to get it, i give credit where credit is due. You do a good job on the car, create beast out of a simple Lexus. Or even for show with wheels, tint, suspension, and a kit.....thats still credible
either way im still going to do my own thing and be myself.....whos with me?

im going to pep boys today to pick up my new aluminum spoiler, type r racing floormats, stick on side vents, every motherlovin led light i can find and 4 underglow tubes for my ride and ima ziptie all that ***** on lol....<---THIS GUY CAN NOT WAIT!!!....OH YEAH AND SOME CARBON FIBER STICKER PAPER SO I CAN WRAP MY ENTIRE DASH lol!!
I'm scared to see what I would've done if I had a Honda or a Nissan like 5-8 years ago(I wasn't old enough to drive back then). I definitely had my ricer phase, but I couldn't drive back then and I quickly realised how stupid that stuff was. I want to see pics of the Integra!

relax people. ricers will be ricers, donkers will be donkers, JDMers, stancers, and drifters will be bosses , and OEM "keep your car stock with sunk wheels or else you don't know anything" guys will continue their path as well.
tacky modded cars only make the clean ones look that much cleaner. so in a way, i'm thankful there are a lot of riced out cars out there.
seriously though, if you think the SC will be the next civic, and it bothers you that much, then you should sell your car right now because the SC already IS the next 240/civic/integra/prelude/etc. etc.
i still love 240s, i still love integras, and i still love clean imports all across the board. just because they are now becoming more affordable for all ranges of consumers doesn't mean the scene is dying. only if you let it. Great styles and ideas come from everywhere. it's a good thing that more and more people can now build cars they only once could dream about.
less hate, more lexus love, fam.

I was playing my old copy of Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition a week ago and I never realized how into the whole rice/gangster thing I was. I had a Supra TT on 21"s with stickers, a riced out SL55 AMG, a couple of gangster Cadillacs and and Lexus'. I have never been so ashamed of myself. I'm glad cars like the SC were more expensive back then or I would be just as guilty of being a ricer. Now i just want a clean, classy car, since it is a LEXUS and not an old 80's Honda.

I agree with most of your points. And I do like JDM's ride, and his mods. Pulling a tree with his car....well that's another story, LOL . I don't hate, but I do find many, many less than tasteful "mods". I also agree there are a lot of "Cookie Cutter" "mods" done on the SC, as well as all makes of cars.....
I will say that I definitely do not fall into that category, "Cookie Cutter, that is"....I am not stating I am better than anybody else on this forum either, but I am extreme, ****, and different. See my build thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...oject-car.html
Ryan
the problem with alot of Supra & SC owners...
Is everyone does the same mods
And very few, do anything extreme and push the envelope with them.
And that ladies and gentlemen is what we call a cookie cutter car.
Grant (JDMmuscle) is a prime example of "tasteful", "clean", "subtle", or whatever term you choose.
Attractive wheels that fit
a proper ride height
and little personal touches that bring it to life
I swear all people do on this website is **** and moan about what other people do to their cars.
And IF those sour puss's even have an SC... it's stock or distastefully modded.
Seriously keep it to yourself, this is supposed to be a forum.

First off, no offense to anyone, but I am pretty dissappointed with the direction of where this forum is going. There are plenty of ugly cars on here and there are very few tastefully modded ones.
I understand that not everybody is willing nor have $3-4k to spend on paint and an aero kit and/or $2-4k on wheels and tires, especially on a car that isn't worth all that much.
Dumping the car as low as possible on stock wheels is far from aesthetically pleasing or cool by any stretch of the imagination. Money doesn't buy good tastes either. The same goes with buying wheels that are too big and stretching the hell out the tires and call it "aggressive" fitment

You could name pretty much any car and we could go out into the interwebs and find 5 pictures of that model riced out. People need to relax about other people's cars.
Yes, people build SC's for drifting. Yes, there are other cars that are better suited for it in stock form. No, all drifters should not be forced to drive 240sx's so as not to hurt the resale value on a 15 year old luxury/sport coupe that sells on average <$5000. SC's look better, JZ>SR+KA, they have a bigger interior for tall guys, etc. If I ever build a car for drifting it'll probably be an SC...or a cressida because I wouldn't feel as bad crashing a cressida.
These cars are old and cheap. As such, they are now fair game for modding.

I have to say I feel let them do what they want to their cars. It's not going to make like my car anyless. If yours is done right it will only stand out in the crowd of garbage. Not every ones going to like every car. Sh@t, I'm sure there are allot of people who don't like mine and I really don't care. I'm building it for me not them. If people happen to like it then great but that's not my goal.

I agree with the main concern of this thread. Which is, we don't want the SC to become under valued and similar to civics.
Rice though is hard to pin point entirely.
I don't think black out housing head lights are rice if done right, but many say they are. I think the black housing ebay lights however ARE rice.
I don't think stretching a tire is rice, to a point of course. But that can be different a year from now.
Having a car in primer is rice. I would not drive my car without my kit painted. Only time I did was to the auto shop to get it painted. Some people however don't care.
Basically I go by the rule if it looks ugly, and tacky, its rice.
We should make a definitive thread, with a list of what is rice and not rice mods for the sc, based on votes and polls. But then again the creativity is gone and all the cars on here will look the same.
