Need to replace/repair windshield

Need to replace/repair windshield
There's a crack on the windshield starting from the rear view mirror going down a couple inches, at first it was small, now it's a bit bigger (or so it seems). I can't feel the crack on the inside or outside of the car, so I call a windshield repair shop and to get some quotes, they said it could NOT be repaired as it is a "stress" crack: one quoted $281 for OEM including molding/adhesives and install + lifetime warranty. They said aftermarket would be $230. Another shop quoted me $215 for aftermarket + install/lifetime warranty. I guess the question is is going OEM really much different than aftermarket? Also, I tried looking for DIY repair kits but they only work for chips, not cracks. I'm located in LA so if you got a reputable shop that deserves my business please let me know... Thanks!

It wasnt too long ago, maybe late last year around Nov. I really didnt need a new windshield, my weatherstrip was going bad cause when we had that crazy rain a few months back it leaked all over inside. I asked the guy just to replace the windsheild he said it wasnt that easy and that he needed to replace the windshield if he was going to work on the weatherstrip.
I was satisfied with his work. He used new moldings/weatherstrips and looks good, everthings all aligned.
Im in OC, the guy was from LA and works MOBILE so he'll came out and install it. I'll look around to see if I still have his business card with the warranty..

No, I have no comprehensive insurance for the car
I found a shop that's doing it for $265 w/ tax, labor included. Mobile too so that's a plus. Wish I had your guy's number since you guys like his work and cheaper.
One place quoted me $1,500 for a Lexus OEM windshield and another quoted $281 for the windshield + labor... fishy?

very happy with replacement windshield
I was tired of looking thru pitted glass with all the glare. I saw the add on TV and called them. Came to the house, brought new top molding from Lexus, took an hour, was very pleased for $230. National company. PM for info.
