Default 93 SC300 idle issue...hesitation...etc

Hi I bought my 93 sc300 with 200,000k on the clock about two months ago. Got it for pretty cheap and I think Im starting to see why. Was wondering if anyone had some insight on what I should do. No check engine lights are on. Getting 16 mpg.

The car shifts pretty hard when I shift the car into D. THe car has a very rough idle when im in D also. It will bob around 750ish to 400. It has dipped below that twice and died at a light. I notice when I shift into the park the idle will shoot up to 1000rpms and have a nice smooth idle.

Response is really bad from a stop. It will sputter and gurgle when accelerating from a stop and lag. When im on the freeway and I stomp on the gas the car will rev up and not accelerate or it will lag then start accelerating. I notice this most when I approach an uphill.

The climate control died so the previous owner decided to somehow wire a switch to control the A/C. When I turn the A/C on using this switch I notice this makes the car want to die when im at idle. Dunno what thats about.

Its wierd though. Sometimes It will run fine then the next second run crappy.

I havent done a tune up on this car yet so I ordered new plugs wires cap rotor and fuel filter. Any other suggestions?

Have you done a tuneup on the car??? Also need some more info on the car. Auto or 5spd ???

Sparkplugs, cap, rotor button, wires, Fuel filter, and Clean the intake with some Good OL SEAFOAM....... I love that stuff.

If you on manuel and you stomp on the gas and Rps shoot up but you don't move your Clutch is slipping Badly. ( I personaly would baby it till you can change the clutch )

If it's auto then your clutches in the transmition is slipping aswell. ( I would look for a good used tranny )

Make darn sure ALL vacume lines are routed properly and are in good shape. (Common problem with rough running and idle issues).ANY half assed wiring jobs MUST be corrected and put back per OEM specs. Drain/Flush/Refill your tranny fluid. People who love their cars usually buy the factory repair manuals and READ them. Best $100 you ever spent on your Lexus, and could save you thousands of $$$.

The car still retains the ****ty automatic. Planning to swap to a W58 once I handle maintenance first.

Turns out someone did the 12V fuel pump mod already but it seemed to be done by a chimp much like the rest of the wiring on the car. I redid it with soldering iron and the car seems to pick up better in terms of acceleration. Idle is stil the same. Im going to check the Vacuum hoses tomorrow. Im wondering if the fuel pump is dying.

If it was a bad vacuum hose wouldnt the car idle bad all the time in Park or drive? When im in park the car idles rock solid at 1k. I smell gas when I first start the car. Im guessing thats just the car running rich to warm up or the cars ignition system is not working to its potential.

I will definately purchase a repair manual. Its just hard to find one locally for this car. I guess ill have to order it online.

appreciate the advice given so far

check your TPS voltage at close and WOT to be sure its set properly. That would cause a high idle and hesitation.

idle isnt high. dips from 750- to almost dying sometimes.

going to do the spark plugs wires and fuel filter today. hope this cures it.

I changed the distributorcap and rotor with no avail. Also sea foamed it. Made the car most responsive but still ****ty idle.
