Question $500 exhaust vs $1000 exhaust

I am in search of an exhaust. Looking around, i see exhaust around the $1000 range, and then i can do a custom like 2 magnaflows or so, with custom piping for around $450.

Is there a difference from buying a $1000 exhaust vs doing your own custom for $500, as far as performance goes?

From what i read, there is not much of a difference as far as performance goes when you compare $1000 exhaust vs $500 exhaust. If that's true, then why so some go out and spend $1000 on an exhaust system, when they'll get the same performance out of a custom $500 exhaust system

I cant justify spending $1000 on an exhaust if it's not going to anything for me as far as performance.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong. If a $1000 exhaust system is going to boost HP for me, more than a cheaper exhaust, then i'm all for it, but if not

Thanks

are these exhausts axle back or cat back...if they're axle back they wont really do anything as far a performance...if they're cat back depending on what kind of piping and if you add resonators or not it could slightly affect the performance. back to the question of why people would pay the extra $500 i could only guess that they dont trust the shops, or that they want a name brand exhaust. me personaly i went with the top speed pro 1 axle backs they were only $270. so i guess its in the eye of the beholder as to which way they go, im with you i wouldtnt pay $1000 for na exhaust unless it was a custom header back exhaust with larger diameter piping and high flow cats with no resonators. so i guess its up to the person paying.

edit: sorry for the really long paragraph

+1. Exhaust won't give you many gains unless you pair it with other mods. Honestly going custom sounds really good if you go to the right shop.

i believe you get a exhaust for a stock car it doesn't do much.. but if your turbo and you get a exhaust it'll increase hp a lot more than stock

i would say it has to do with build quality, 1000$ exhaust would be something you would put on a car for show... just a thought

$500? titanium? cause a standard stainless 3'' dual doesn't even cost that much...unless your including new cats with it..?

just go with a custom setup. a lot of the expensive exhausts are just for sound and looks.

Definitely go with the custom exhaust! I went with one and it makes my stock SC300 sound better than some V8's. Now everybody wants to race me.

the $1000 is probably mandrel bent and bolt on. the $450 will probably be crush bent with custom hangers.
