i would pull off all the connectors and spray an electrical cleaner in them... it will evaporate any moisture that was caught.. i had a problem with my mr2 a while back and that solved it...

Check you're IACV, idle air control valve, the round black thing in front of the motor. It's possible that some build up or water or something messed up the bearings or something. But having the rpms oscillate between those rpms sounds like something to do the IACV as it's happened to me before.

And the winner is..............Fliptrix! I disassembled the IACV and both bearings were basically frozen. I cleaned everything and worked some Tri-Flow into the bearings, let them sit for about an hour, spinning them periodically to work the lubricant in. Put everything back together and it runs smoother than ever. I have to think that they were nearly wasted when I decided it would be smart to Gunk and hose off my engine. That foolish act just pushed them over the edge. I did learn that the two bearings in there are available locally for about $3.00 each. I would recommend to anyone that is changing their plug wires or any other maintenance that allows easy access to remove the IACV to do it. My car is a 92 and I just flipped 166K It is an easy job once access is gained and the results are stunning. So thank you Fliptrix and enjoy the beer!
